I'm now 36 weeks and have been having Braxton hicks contractions for a little while and had no clue I was having them until i described what i had been feeling to my doc and she hooked me up to the machine to monitor me. For me my stomach feels tight to the touch where if you are to press on it it feels solid..... That's how they started off feeling. Now they feel like slight menstrual cramps that comes with tightening in my stomach and pressure in my lower abdomin and lower back/butt.

With my first I went 41 weeks and didn't have a single contraction until I was in labor. This time I am 38 weeks and have had a few but only a couple times a week.

I'm 35 weeks and have been having Braxton hicks for quite some time.  They are starting to intensify but they are not painful.  At this point they make it slightly more difficult to breathe.  I originally did not know what they were.  Until one day I told my mom how the baby was "balling up and getting really hard" and she explain that was a Braxton hicks contraction.  You could be having them and not notice it. In the early days if my hand wasn't non my tummy I wouldn't know it was a BH.  Your belly gets very very hard for a few seconds.

I have been having BH since the beginning of 3rd trimester but I too thought it was just the baby moving or just a sudden urge to urinate. As for 'real' contractions, I have not felt a single one! I thought I felt one the other day but it turns out it was just bad gas. I am wondering if this means that I will go over my due date? I know not everyone has prodromal labor but sometimes I wish something was happening.

With my first, I never felt any contractions until I was in actual labor. My midwife told me that I had braxton hicks, but somehow I really couldn't tell. When the *real* contractions came, though, there was no missing them.

With my first I had regular NSTs toward the end of my pregnancy. That is the only way I knew I was having contractions. I didn't feel them at all. With my second, no NSTs but when I went in for my scheduled C-section, I was hooked up to the monitor for an hour prior, which showed that I was having regular contractions. My doctor and nurse were surprised I wasn't feeling them. This time around, I don't think I've had any yet but who knows. The only time I have ever been able to feel anything was when i was in active labor (first pregnancy).

I turned 36 weeks today (FTM) and I'm feeling something for sure, I just have no idea what it is. I've only noticed BH in the past when I've been walking because my entire abdomen tightens up, but I can only sometimes feel it. Feels like a low-level stomach cramp for me. But for the past couple of days I've been getting this sore pain on the top of my abdomen and halfway down the sides. Hurts more than I've experienced before and for longer, but my stomach doesn't feel much harder. I'm going to the OB on Wednesday so I'll ask while I'm there. It doesn't feel like a real contraction (I'm guessing), just soreness and hurtiness (technical term).

I only know my BH contractions are about to start because I get short of breath. My abdomen will tighten shortly after. Lately they have been accompanied by period-liek cramps around the front and into my lower back. I don't know what a real contraction feels like yet, as I am also a FTM. However, I figure once I can't talk or do anything but breathe during the contraction, I'll know it's time.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one... lost count of how many times I thought for SURE that was a contraction, only to realize it was a gas pain. And that's just in the last few days... ;)

BH feel a little like a roller coaster whooptie tummy feeling, plus my stomach gets really hard.

"Real" contracts (once I as in the thick of labor) felt like the worst stomach cramps you could imagine. Like, crying/puking hurt so bad stomach cramps.

That said, I was having regular contractions and dilated to 6-7 with DS#2 and never felt any sensation at all. So, evidently I'm the worlds worst at knowing when I'm in labor. It's totally freaking me out, even though this is my third.
