Hi ladies, I post regularly on PAIF and have a couple dumb questions I'm hoping you can help with that I've come up with as I'm starting to register.
1. Do I need a baby humidifier? We own a Vicks warm mist humidifier from walmart that I've used with a sinus thing or cold before so do I need another one that's specific for baby? (I know some are cool mist and some are warm - not sure of the pros/cons or if I need both)
2. For middle of the night diaper changes and feedings - do you do these in the dark or do you turn on a lamp or do you have some kind of nightlight? If a nightlight would be best for this then I was going to register for one.
Thanks in advance!

I just used a regular vaporizer (cool mist), not a baby one.
And yes, a nightlight is very important for middle of the night diaper changes. I always used the one on the pack n play, since I used it as a bassinet.
Well apparently I'm the odd one out, we just turned on the light. We do have a nightlite in the room, but it wasn't bright enough to change a diaper in, and I always like to check the diapers and what not to make sure everything is clean and good.
But in general, a nightlite is a great idea!

They say to use the cool mist so there's no possibility of the kids getting burned. Any cool most humidifier is fine.
I bought a tiny little lamp to turn on at night. Or if I'm in my room I turn on the tv for light. I try to keep it dark at night so the babies get in to the routine that nights are for sleeping.
Diagnosed MFI- low sperm count

I'm the odd one out. I never used a humidifier. I figured I would get one if it seemed necessary.
We had a night light for diaper changes. The big light seemed to rev up my DD and only happened on occasion where there was major leakage and a whole outfit change.

I bought a cool mist humidifer but never used it until LO's first cold. I never used a nightlight. Diaper changes woke up the kiddo anyway, so I always just turned on the light.

2) We have this great 5 dollar lamp from IKEA, it's kinda like a night light but bigger and lights up whole room lightly, just the right amount and isn't bright at all. Gives entire room a nice pink hue at night (so good for diaper changes/doing anything in the room/breastfeeding in chair). It is also plastic, so if LO knocks it over when she gets bigger, it won't break! IKEA lamp

I never used a humidifier for the first 2 years of DS's life when we lived in Seattle. I now have one in my own bedroom because since I have moved to the Boston-area, the dried out winter air in our home makes it as dry as the Sahara. I may get another for DS's room, but I haven't yet.
I have a lamp in DS's room that has a dimmer switch on it. I could turn it on low to do middle of the night diaper changes.
We have the Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier, too but only used it when he was sick with RSV. I'm used to working in dim lighting, so I only used a dim lamp for MOTN changes/feedings. I think he slept better that way, that could all be in my mind though.
