How Long did it take for your little one to poop on the potty?

My daughter will be 3 in April. She has been peeing on the potty since November and doing really well with it. She has pooped 3 times on the potty during these months and thats it. Its like she is afraid. So since then she doesnt really have full poops, she will just do little drops throughout the day whether we have panties or pull up on her. She gets extremely sore....like you would not believe how bad her bum is. What happens is that she does something so small that it dont even come out of the cheeks of her bum and if poop is left on her for 10 minutes she gets really sore. Her being sore has traumatized her. She does not want to poop cause she associates it with being in pain :(

Has anyone had this issue?

  • Have you talked to your pedi? DS held poop at the beginning of potty training. We pushed water, juice, and fiber and decided if he hadn't make progress to check with pedi. It took him about one week longer for poop to click after pee. I would definitely back off the potty.

  • It took about 10 days for my daughter to poop on the potty. We started training her beginning of this month and she Peed on the potty no problem from the start, and she pooped in her panties every single day and finally something clicked last week and now she poops in the potty. She is about 90% trained, she has a pee accident every couple of days or so. SheWill be three at the end of next month.

  • My twins will also be 3 in April and they are not interested in potty training. I'm not sure if I should start setting a timer and trying to make it happen or let them decide when they are interested. They sit on the potty every few days, but have not done anything yet.

I talked with her pedi yesterday. She suggested all of the things we have tried, for example telling her big gils poop on the potty, the reward system, sitting her on it and usual times she poops with a book or toy or something to keep her until she relaxes. But we have did all that and it dont work with her. She did say to not give up and to not go back to pull ups (unless at naptime). She then suggested going naked on the bottom, no panties or pants for a full weekend. I wish I had of thought of that as my mom has been in town all week with her at home. So we shall see.

  • If she's holding it in she's probably pretty backed up. DD doesn't poop daily (though she's not afraid to poop on the potty, she wanted to poop in the potty way before she would pee there), so her ped told us to do a small dose of Miralax every day for two weeks to make sure she wasn't just backed up. Miralax daily for a week or so may help soften the poop and get her more regular so it doesn't hurt when she does go. If it doesn't hurt she may be more willing to poop on the potty.

  • We have twin boys who are now 3 years old (and about 3 months).  One of ours was potty trained shortly after he was two and took to it over a weekend.  We thought it was so easy.....now it's been over a year and the other one cries if you even mention the potty.  Every child is different and some need to overcome anxiety of the potty.  We continue to look for signs and take every opportunity to encourage him to sit or stand near the potty when he is willing.
