Hello ladies, when did your dr. schedule your anatomy scan? My Dr.'s nurse just called on Friday and told me my anatomy scan is scheduled for Feb. 11th. I will be approximately 12 weeks. This seems too early to me...Anyone else?
Are you sure it's the anatomy scan and not just an ultrasound? I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks and 12 weeks then the a/s at 20 weeks. I forget what the 12 week one was for. It may just be a regular ultrasound and the nurse got confused.
The NT test is done at around 13 weeks. Includes a blood test and a sono. 12 weeks is too soon for the big anatomy scan which is usually at 20 weeks like the pp said. Most of the organs and what not that they look for in the 20 week sono are not developed enough to get a good look at 12 weeks.
Perhaps it will be the NT scan. The only scan we discussed at my last visit was the upcoming A/S and I stated that I remembered it from last time. I had it at 16 weeks and we had to go back at 21 weeks due to "soft markers" (ie... the baby not being old enough yet) Then the office called and told me the scheduled time. I will try to ask at my u/s this Tuesday. Thanks for the input ladies!
I don't think that is an anatomy scan. Seems way too early. Mine was scheduled for around 19wk I believe (it was done in early December so I don't remember the exact week without looking at my calendar!).
That sounds way too early to me. Are you sure it's the anatomy scan? My scan wasn't until this past Friday which was 20 weeks for me. Usually, scans are done around 19-20 weeks.
so my dr.'s office just called to tell me I have a SCH which is freaking me out, and the nurse confirmed that it would be an A/S on Feb. 11th. I stated that it was too early and she said well, they can still see some things....
I am feeling pretty unsure about my Dr.'s office right now.
Now is a good time to switch drs if you don't like this one. Better to do it sooner than later. Don't get too worried about the SCH. they are really common and usuallly resolve without issue. 12 weeks is way too early for a good anatomy scan.
I had a SH with this baby. It caused a lot of worry and 1 trip to the ER 4 follow up u/s. But it resolved by 14 or so weeks. They can be concerning but they are very common. This is my 5th baby and I had SH with all but 1.
Agree with the pp. If you are unhappy or unsure about your ob this is a good time to look for a new one.
Okay, dumb question. (I find I have a lot of them as this is my first bundle.) What exactly is the anatomy scan? I am scheduled for a special ultrasound at 18 weeks. I am guessing this is the same thing maybe? Doc said it would be about 45 minutes and they would look to see how everything is growing. Sound right?
This usually happens around 20ish weeks. They take a detailed look at size, organs, brain, limbs, blood flow, cord, heartbeat etc to make sure all looks ok for the development of the baby. If there are problems they can sometime be detected at this point.
jerseygirl227 - Yes, the 18-20 week ultrasound is the same thing as the anatomy scan. My OB's office didn't call it an anatomy scan, but that's what everyone here on the boards calls it.

So I went for the "Anatomy Scan" that my OB nurse was so adamant I was having yesterday. The perinatologist went through my history, told me she had my statistics for the likelihood of downs syndrome. I told her I didn't want to hear it. She said that was fine. They did the scan and then told me the baby had a nasal bone and a good nuchal fold. So yeah, it was definitely my NT scan and not my A/S - stupid OB nurse! Thanks for all of your previous comments and reassurances ladies!
That's exactly how I feel this time around too! It's my 6th pregnancy.. hopefully my 3rd take home baby. I have a different health plan this year so things have just been a jumbled mess for some reason. When I had my previous plan with my previous employer, I never had any difficulties.. with anything. I never had balances or OOP expenses or copays or anything. I never had eligibility issues or coverage issues.. never had to talk to pharmacies or the health plan themselves.. everything was smooth as could be. This time around.. I work for a different hospital.. under a different health plan and I swear these people can't get their crap together!! I actually don't think it's the OB's office.. I think it's the health plan and the pharmacy but I've been on the phone like crazy with both parties just to get my care approved so everything goes the way it's supposed to!
