I'm 13.5 weeks and just got a crown. I've had lots of dental work in the past, so I wasn't nervous, but my dentist used lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine, and I had a mild, brief reaction of light-headedness, which I've never experienced before (of course this would be the time that I did!)
Although most recommend not using epinephrine while pregnant, I've seen a handful of sources say that this small amount is not harmful, and my dentist said the same. We've already had enough of a scare with this baby (large SCH in process of healing), so I can't help but be scared that my reacting to the epinephrine might have been bad for baby.
My biggest question is: has anyone actually had a negative result from being given epinephrine? I can find a thousand sites and boards that advise against it and list the risks, but not once have I found someone with a story to back it up. I'm hoping the warnings are just being cautious of the unknown or high doses.
I didn't have dental work done while pregnant; however, I was put under for knee surgery when my daughter was 3 months old. These links were helpful then:
Not 100% sure, but it's probably a safe bet to assume that if you shouldn't take a medication while BFing, you shouldn't take it while KU. If I were you, I'd speak to my OB just to stay on the safe side.
