WWYD- Daycare and naps

So as you all know, J has sleep issues.  Over Christmas vacation he was STTN 7:30-6:00 pretty consistently but only napping for an hour and a half or an hour and 45 min, which I guess I was happy with.  Now that we're back from break, his sleep is messed up again! He's woken up a couple times a night the past three nights and has gotten up at 4:00-4:30 for the day both yesterday and today.  He's napping for 2+ hours at daycare.
My WWYD is twofold:
Would you ask DC to shorten his nap so that he/you could get better sleep at night?
Would you be concerned that your child isn't getting the 14 hours he needs? (My child seems to only want 12 hours total)

Re: WWYD- Daycare and naps

  • I've read from several different sources that 12-14 hrs. is average at this age. Some kids sleep slightly more, some slightly less. That being said, I wouldn't worry about him averaging 12 hrs unless he seems to be constantly fatigued.

I also agree with @allydncr about the naps. I don't think that 30min-1 hr more of napping a day will mess up his schedule too badly. Emmett will nap anywhere from 1 1/2 hrs to 3+ hrs but he still sleeps the same amount of time at night. However, I only know what I've experienced with my 1 LO, so I know I can't speak from a lot of experience.

  • I am of the mind that sleep begets sleep so I think the longer daycare naps are ok and if they woke him early it could mean even less sleep for him.
