infant tub?

Anyone's LO still in an infant tub? Ours is a plastic molded whale that sits in the real tub. O can't seem to deal with a big bathtub....he freaks. I've tried transitioning every way I can think of.

Travel is very stressful since we do a bath as part of our bedtime routine and he's super hard to get down without one.

Any advice?

DD had a rough time when we first transitioned from baby bathtub to the big tub. She would constantly try to stand, get out, cry, etc. What worked for us was temporarily switching to showers. When I gave the bath another shot a few weeks later, she was fine, and has been since.

We used ours until about 17 months and she was just getting too hard to bathe in it.  She did freak out in the big bathtub the first couple of times, but slowly got better. I let her stand at the side and throw bath toys into the tub while it was filling up and i started with just a couple inches of water in there. After a few times, she just got used to it, now she loves it.

    Good Luck!

Okay I may sound crazy but it worked for us... After growing out of the infant tub and not quite ready for the tub by herself yet I turned to pinterest. We used a laundry basket that had holes and put in the tub. She loved it, it kept her toys in one spot, she didnt slip or slide, she had room to move but also was able to get used to the flow of the water in the tub and her surroundings. I kept her in there for a while and just decided to try the regular tub without the basket one night and she was fine. I believe it helped her.

I know it wont help for travel purposes but it could be good for transitioning.

I was also going to suggest the laundry basket. My LO loves the big bath, but the couple of times we've tried to take him in the shower he has flipped out completely. I wish he would shower like PPs' kids!

I was going to suggest getting in the bath with him too. We only used the infant tub a couple of months and them we started getting in the tub with them. It was just easier! So mine transitioned really young but they've had no trouble bathing in the big tub (without us, but we do bathe them together) since.

Emmett has been out of the infant tub for a long time, so I don't remember exactly what we did. I think like PPs, my husband got in the bath with him for a few days. He's always loved the bath though, and was constantly trying to climb out of the infant tub, so it wasn't a difficult transition.

On another note, he pooped in the bath the other day and for some reason it scared him. Now, he won't get in the tub even if my DH is in there. Not sure what to do about that...

We only do the shower with DD. I just take her in the shower with me.

Thanks ladies. May try the laundry bin idea. I have got in the tub numerous times with him - but I will certainly try again. We enjoy nightly bathtime... gives the other one of us a chance to start dinner while me or H is doing bathtime. We only tried to do a shower once -he didn't hate it but didn't love it either. Maybe we will try to do that for a while then transition to the big tub.

    Thanks again!

When my LO grew out if the plastic infant tub we transitioned to this one and still use it.

It's inflatable so theoretically you can deflate it and pack it for travel though we have never done that.  The only place we have stayed overnight is my mom's and she just bought one for us since they are cheap.  She is getting a little big for it but still fits in it for now.  It keeps her safe and her toys contained so I plan to keep using it as long as we can!

We tried that one too and LO FREAKED out. Even when we weren't trying to give her a tub, she would see it sitting in the corner and start saying "no no no no"! Something about that duck scared her!
So funny! My LO never had any problem with it. She even likes to point out the duck's eye, what color it is etc. But she's always seemed to like ducks and had a rubber ducky as a bath toy forever until I tossed it because it got mildew inside. I could see how it might be scary though, it is a really big duck.

Although that duck my be a scary model for some, I used a similar inflatable tub like that when my older 2 were little, but it was plain white. My kids loved it and I liked the idea that if they slipped somehow their head would hit the air-filled sides. Maybe there are different models out there? We are currently showering like I said, because the big tub still seems so big, and the infant tub too small. Edit: because "infant" does not = I fantastic.

I started getting in when he was scared like PPs. Sadly, Istill get in with LO... He isn't scared anymore but he tries to stand up and has slipped a few times. I may stop doing it soon , but his safety is what I'm concerned with. He climbs everything!

DH used to get in the tub with LO when she went through her scared-of-the-tub phase. We also went through a period where I would get in the shower with her. That was so much of a hassle, so I'm glad she will take a bath in the regular tub now.
