What's the deal with bras? I feel like I'm buying a new ones every other month (30 weeks along). The thing is I never know what size to get when I have to move up. Also, are the sizes the same with sports bras? I just bought a sports bra that is the same "size" as my current bra size and I can barely breathe in it!
I go to LaBratique near 50th & France. Nordstrom also does fittings.
Your breasts will grow with pregnancy and your band size may go up if your ribs expand to accommodate baby.
I went from DDD up to J's while nursing. Getting fitted helped me find things that fit and supported correctly while having a little growing room available.
Many women are wearing the wrong bra size...usually a too-big band with a too-small cup. don't fear the letters!
If you plan on nursing I recommend buying nursing bras at this point- the size you are now is probably the same size you will be after your milk regulates. I bought mine from motherhood maternity and they can fit you there and give advice on what types to buy.... I ended up buying the size I was at the time plus a bigger size for after the baby came. Also my band size increased but is now starting to get back to normal (lo is 8 months)
Yes, you need to go get fitted by a pro!!! You may find you've significantly changed sizes since getting pregnant - go with what fits not what you want to fit. Nordstroms is who I've used and they're great about the free shipping if you get fitted and they don't have your specific size which shouldn't be an issue since you're on the smaller side.
As for sports bras - one thing I've found is whomever made the particular one is what makes all the difference in the world. I've had some that feel huge others that feel small all the same "size". OTOH, I much prefer the "give" that sports bras provide.
@CivilMommy - so do you go back and get fitted every time you need to move up a size?
Yes.
I only buy bras there, so I get fitted every time something changes. I'd lost 100 pounds before getting pregnant, so I went for 3 fittings this year (should have done more, but I was being frugal). Now that I am pregnant I am working my way back up through the cup sizes I had dropped.
Once you know your brands, you can take a stab at ordering the next cup up online, but I find that as I change size, things fit differently and another style might be more comfortable.
The bras are about $50-$60 each in my size (38G these days) so I only buy 1 or 2 at a time.

Okay thanks. I'm pretty sure I am an E- cup by now but having a hard time coming to terms with that. Going to La Bratique tomorrow.
I went to Destination Maternity yesterday to get some nursing bras and had a good experience as well when you want to start looking for those, they measured me, and I apparently have been very negligent in how much I needed a bigger size. Yikes. The only downside is that it's at Mall of America.
Another option for bras during the time when you are constantly changing is the Genie bras. I saw them on infomercials for years and found some on a whim at Burlington. They look like a cami at the top and are super comfortable, lots of colors too. I grabbed a three pack for $19.99.

Soma is great! They had me get an unlined one so it could stretch as I grew. I just added some light pads. They carry nursing bras but I wouldnt buy those until you deliver and wear nursing tanks at the beginning.

I LOVE Genie bras! So comfortable and and actually gives you some shape! I never have intentions on going back to regular bras. I've been professionally fitted multiple times and still prefer Genie bras!
I have gone to Motherhood Maternity in Woodbury located in the Tamarack Village. They were very helpful, not only with bra fittings, but how to buy clothes that fit right too.
