I had GD with both boys. According to my doctor, I "passed" the 3-hour GTT (just one high number), but I was skeptical after already having it twice. So, he went ahead and prescribed me a meter and after testing a few times, sure enough, I have GD, again!
Just curious as to what standard you/your OB used to diagnose you with the meter. I also only had one high # on the GTT, but at my appt on Fri my OB said he was a little worried about it so gave me a meter and has me testing 4x/day for at least a week. He said that if 30% or more of the #s were "abnormal" (above 95 fasting or above 120 2 hours after meals) then I'd be diagnosed. Is that the standard you guys used?
To be honest, I pretty much diagnosed myself. I'm supposed to be under 90 fasting and under 130 an hour after eating. First I had a a high fasting number. Then I had a couple "borderline numbers" right after eating a lunch that SHOULD have been just fine. So, I tested myself and had a super high carb breakfast and it was over 200. That was enough for me to call my nutritionist and she confirmed I should not be seeing over 200 if I'm not diabetic. Plus, my fasting has been 90-95, which I know from experience is on the high side. My OB doesn't really get too involved, he gets a report from my nutritionist (who is a diabetic specialist) and pretty much goes with what she suggests.
How far along? 31 wks, 4 days
Treatment/regimen? Test 4x per day, eating every 2.5-3 hrs (bfast/snacks around 15g carbs, lunch/dinner under 60g carbs)
Updates? Struggles? Raves? I'm usually hovering just above the 90 mark for fasting but rarely seem to get under, like my specialist wants. I still get upset with myself if I get any readings above the 130 mark after meals even though I'm following the "rules". Luckily I've had more good numbers than bad lately, but I still wish blood sugar levels weren't dependent on so many other factors, too. I'm sad every time some students bring in snacks for me this holiday season and I have to decline. At least I can freeze certain baked items for later.
QOTW: When you were younger, what did you always want for Christmas? Like some others said I was mostly content with whatever I got on Christmas. I guess I did always want an original Nintendo and Sega Genesis, but we DID get an SNES eventually (still probably my all-time favorite game system).
Don't be too hard on yourself. If you're sticking to the diet and your numbers go a little over 130, my nutritionist doesn't panic. You could eat the exact same thing another day and it might be fine. And it's those darn hormones that mess with your fasting. No matter WHAT I eat (or don't eat), I eventually can't keep my fasting numbers in check and end up on insulin. I was devastated at first, but it's really not so bad. This, too, shall pass.
Every time I want sweets (or just carbs), I think of the baby and realize it's just not worth it. Soon enough, someone will be bringing me a cinnamon roll in the hospital and this will all be behind us!
Yes, it feels so good to eat a regular diet and not have sugar blowouts! Although, I do find myself following the diet a little, don't want to develop type 2 diabetes later down the line... Keep it up ladies!
F15 January Siggy Challenge: What I'm Looking Forward to After the Babies Arrive Bringing them both home...UPDATE...The girls are home!!! 1/7/15 after 20 days in the NICU!
It is pretty miserable, on top of being hugely pregnant, now I have read hive welts all over my belly. So far the claritin and benadryl have helped. no new hives and the old ones are finally getting better (except for the one from the second type of insulin, which is why we went back to humilin last night)
@pikopiko Haven't been on much because I broke my cell phone, I've been nesting and cleaning/reorganizing every room in my house, and with Christmas so close I decided to make my husband a blanket for christmas. I've been working on that nonstop when hes not home and then switching to cleaning everything when he is.
How far along? 30 weeks
Treatment/regimen? diet and exercise
Updates? Struggles? Raves? No real updates. Since I quit working my sugar is slightly higher but not above range. I guess because less exercise then I'm use to? I gave up calling my doctors office for help.
QOTW: When you were younger, what did you always want for Christmas? I always wanted books. Or gift cards to book stores. I would beg my family for books. When i got to be older I was more specific and told them I wanted Stephen King books. So they usually always got me a couple paper backs growing up with whatever else they thought to get me. Honestly though I'd have just been happy with only books.
