NWMR - Kids' room arrangements

DS is 2.5 and we are expecting a new baby in May 2015 so are going to transition him from his crib to a big boy bed.  We can't decide if we should transition him into a new room as well; and if so, whether or not we should put little fun things (like a table, art corner, storage for toys) in there so that he can paly in his room.  Right now he uses his room for reading and sleeping only.  We occasionally let him bring his toys up there, but most of the time, he plays downstairs with us.  I'm not sure if with the new baby coming whether he would want his own little space to play?  It will be getting pretty carmmed downstairs once the baby is here with all the baby swings etc.  What do you all do?

This is really dependent on the house. The kids don't have a playroom so most toys and books are upstairs. They have separate rooms but they 9/10 times play in DS's room. They also have things downstairs, in every room except for the kitchen.
I can see moving some of your sons things upstairs but I wouldn't worry to much about getting new things. Unless you plan to be in the room with him, I would keep the art stuff downstairs where you can participate.

Our girls share a room and their room is for sleeping, dressing and bedtime stories.  We have our formal dining room full of toys.  I've been teaching dd1 that the smaller toys need to be at the table in the room so the baby doesn't get them.  I put the swing in the living room, but the bouncer and exersaucer were in the playroom too.  DD1 keeps her art stufff, beads and itty bitty stuff in a special cupboard and has to play with it in the kitchen on the rug.  It works.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

Mine are 8, 5, 3 and 2 and only the oldest ever really wants to play in his room.  And when he does, he carries the toys upstairs.  I'm not sure I see a child younger than say 4 or 5 really wanting to be playing alone in their room vs being somewhere with a parent close by but maybe my kids are just weird.  Or, maybe their bedrooms are just so cramped that they have no desire to try and squeeze toys into them!

We do have a den which is a playroom, along with part of the basement, and any baby is normally in the living room.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
