As I lie here, nursing my IVF baby, I remember beginning the process and especially my retrieval, which was one year ago tomorrow. The most important things that I believe led to success were:

    1. Eat a high protein diet when you are growing those eggs! My RE recommended 35% protein, no more than 40% carbs and the rest fat. I used the Lose It app to keep track of the split which made it easier. If you make good quality eggs, you are more likely to have good quality blasts.

    2. Believe it is going to work. It took us four years to get pregnant, but during IVF I really think you have to stay positive and know that eventually, it will work. It is so hard, but I think it makes a difference.

    3. Don't be bummed if you can't do a fresh cycle and have to do a FET. It gives your body a chance to rest and you can get your body ready for pregnancy.

I hope all of you on here get your miracle babies and have happy, healthy pregnancies and deliveries.

  • Wildly helpful thread! Many thanks. I am about to start IVF and have a million and one questions. Could someone give the real deal about weigh gain? Is it temporary bloating and constipation that goes away or something more real? Thanks.

  • Of everything I've read of other women going through IVF, I think the weight gain depends on several factors. I've ready many stories where the woman has put on weight, especially if they go through several rounds of IVF. For me personally, I don't think I gained any weight. However, I only did one round of IVF, I have a very athletic/slim body type, and I responded very well to the meds (so that I was on low doses).

One of the best things you can do is have a healthy weight going into IVF, and be in reasonably good shape. Just like pregnancy, the better shape you're in before baby or IVF, the better you should be able to bounce back. Good luck.
  • Don't be afraid to push your specialist for more testing at any time. Or get them to explain as much as possible. If you're not happy with how you're being treated change specialists if that's an option in your area. Or get second opinions from other clinics if you can! Research your specialist too :) good luck to everyone! :)

All of these posts are great and extremely helpful! I am very new to these message boards so I am just trying to navigate through all of this. My husband and I have been through 3 failed IUI's and are now currently starting on our very 1st IVF cycle.  I am on day 3 of the injections and trying to remain positive and take things one day at a time.  Thanks for all of the great tips...  :)
