Stay at Home Moms

Who is from Michigan?

Ok so I feel a little strange about posting this after the other Michigan thread. I am looking for other moms close to me to do play dates with. I have an almost 7 month old (on the 20th) daughter kailey and I want her to get more time with other kids around or close to her age. Anyone? :)

Re: Who is from Michigan?

  • I'm from MI, but my kids are older. Depending on what area you're in, there are some really great library story times and active Mom/MOPs groups.

  • I am in Clarkston. I take her to story time at the library but that is only 45 min one day a week. I would like to have her around other kids at least one other day a week. I checked with my local board a few months ago and got no response.
  • I have friends in Clarkston...I will check and see if they have suggestions. Rochester Play in RH is great if it's not too far of a drive, and I think there is a Pump It Up in AH.

  • I am in Michigan, but not too familiar with Clarkston. There is a Facebook group called Metro Detroit Mommy. You can send this exact question in, and they will post it. You will get a ton of responses. Macaroni Kid Lake Orion-Rochester Hills is also on Facebook and lists tons of events. Have you tried Mommy and Me classes through your parks and recreation? Don't forget to check your school district's enrichment programs. I have actually had more luck meeting people with classes offered through the school district. Do you have any churches nearby? A lot of churches offer mommy support groups. The kids play and the mommies hang out. My hospital offered a similar program and we loved going! Some people have had luck with meet-up.com Your best bet is going to places where there are a lot of kids, and hanging out. Great Lakes Crossing has a great play area. In the summer, the Clarkston splash pad is open. I agree Rochester Play is good, but your LO is probably still a little young. Boogie Babies in Rochester Hills has more for younger kids and is more conducive for striking up a conversation with moms.

I am from Lansing and have a 3 m.o. and a almost 2 y.o.  Not close enough for playdates, I think.  We go to the library and I have a made a couple friend through meet-up groups.
