Newborn stash: New vs. used?

Just curious what your thoughts are for how much, if any, of the newborn stash should be new versus used, for those of us who are budget conscious. You can answer this for what you did or what you wish you had done, whichever works for you.

I knew what I wanted, and I was not averse to getting everything used. I probably had about 85% used stuff and then a few things I bought new bc I couldn't find them used at the time. Even though L was the second or third baby to use most of these NB diapers, everything is still in great shape and will go on to diaper more babies.

Everything gets used for so little time.  Prefolds and workhorses can take a beating.  Buy those used if you can find them.  Covers are always fun to buy.  I'd get some used and some new.  Only because the prints can be so fun.

I probably only have about 2/3 of a NB stash because I started out with a diaper trial and then bought more of what I liked. DS outgrew the NB sizes before I was able to accumulate a full NB stash.

Honestly, for things like prefolds/flats I'm not sure if you save a ton of money buying used vs. new, because they're already pretty inexpensive if you buy them new. During our diaper trial I decided that since the NB stage was going to be so short, I'd do 24 prefolds (GMD yellows -- a bit bulky on a NB, but in our case DS was able to wear them until 13 weeks) and fill the rest out with Kissaluvs size 0. Since the fitteds were a bit pricier, I decided it would be a good idea to get them used, which was the right way to go -- as it turned out we only got a few weeks of use out of them.

NB pockets/AIOs are nice but cost a bit more, so if you really wanted to have more than a few and money is an issue then in that case I would look to save money by buying used.

Even some of the covers can take some serious abuse and they don't look any worse.  I bought 3 used Super Brite covers and They had a little bit of piling on the edges, but the velcro and PUL were still excellent.  After 4 weeks of use, they still looked and functioned the same. 

They probably will last another 2-3 kids.

In my NB stash I have 3 used. My boss gave me a $100 gift card so I purchased all of the prefolds and workhorses new. If I didn't have the gift card I would have more used.

We started CD dd after a year, and since dd#2 is our last, I couldn't justify buying a new stash of nb cd. I bought a ton of nb/small prefolds from our embryologist, have picked up workhorses and pockets on the swap thread, and gotten covers at a local consignment sale. My cousin even offered to ship us her nb stash! Yay!

Everything I've gotten has been in excellent shape.

most of my prefolds were used, but the most of covers were new. 

We plan on lots more kids, so we want them to last.

SS because I bought it all new, not because I was grossed out, but because I didn't know any better. Without realizing I had anyone to ask I just kind of picked things up here and there and ended up selling half of it and buying used workhorses. If I could do it again Id spend 9 months acquiring used workhorses, a few prefolds, and gently used nb RaR covers with snaps. Coulda shoulda woulda!

This.  I'm not grossed out I just knew we'd be using them for another kid, and would therefore totally recoup costs.

I chose 0% used- but not because other babies poop is gross or anything.  We just bought new because hopefully we'll be having 3 or 4 kids and I wasn't sure that used diapers would make it through all our kids if they were already used.  

 And we got most of our newborn diapers as gifts from MIL from our registry.

I'm only getting new because my husband has all sorts of crazy objections, and he's kind of grossed out by used stuff anyways - getting him onboard buying used diapers was never going to happen.

My NB stash was 21 Kissaluvs fitteds and 3 prowrap covers, all used from a mama on Craigslist who used them for her two kids. I also received one Bummis SuperBrite cover as a gift, and a few Thirsties Duos that I barely used because they didn't fit until she was almost ready for one size. I also had a dozen NB prefolds that I occasionally used to fill out our stash, but mostly they just got used for burp clothes. I did buy those new from GMD. So, mostly used but a few new things. I will be using the same stash again for baby #2 and it's in great shape. I was planning to buy new but I got a great deal on the used stuff, and it really doesn't seem any worse for the wear than most of the new stuff I've used.

Everything was new except for the flats. I made them from used sheets ... so used but not in diaper sense. Covers. Wet bags etc.

I only buy certain things new. Others I buy used. Dh is against used but I know he knows I've bought used items. He just knows I bleach the he'll out of them so I think he's fine with it.

Poop goes everywhere sometimes. Even on clothes. So to me it's no different buying used clothing. Kids get dirty. They pee and poop. Throw up. Roll around on the ground.

I've been on a stream of bad luck with used diapers. Conditions not being as described and what not. Kinda annoying.

I'm a little late to the game here.  But I voted speshul shnowflayke.  I bought a full brand new stash, and hated it.  I ended up using 90% used -- borrowed from a freaking awesome friend, you!! -- 9% FSTs, and about 1% the new stash I had bought.
