After losing my cousin to a car accident on Thanksgiving, my DD has been having some odd bathroom issues (passing mucus and occasional small amounts of blood). Today we had to rush her to the hospital for a rectal prolapse. It corrected itself on the 15min drive to the hospital.
We have a follow-up Friday to see if can figure what's going on with both the prolapse and the mucus/blood stools. She is fine otherwise. Appetite normal, no fever, playing, etc. so hopefully it ends up being something easy to heal.
This mama? Scared. To. Death.

I am sorry. That had to be terrifying. I hope you can catch a break soon! Sending thoughts and prayers your way for good news at the follow-up on Friday.
Happened again today and had to take her back. They called the specialist again. Specialist said is sounds more like
mucosal prolapse not true rectal prolapse. Specialist said it can be
common in kids 2-4 after constipation or diarrhea. Where it retracts on
its own very quickly(within 15-20 minutes) and doesn't seem to cause her
pain, if it happens while she is pooping, let her finish pooping. Keep
it clean and moist. If it doesn't go back on its own within an hour,
then bring her back in.
On a BRAT diet until further notice. We still have a follow-up tomorrow.
Need to collect a stool sample so they can rule anything bacterial,
etc. out. And I am to make an appointment with the specialist.
Specialist said that it can take up to a month for it to stop happening
but the ER doc wants me to get in with the specialist now so that we
aren't back at square one if it doesn't resolve.
We won't know much more until we can get a stool sample delivered. Which
could be hard as she's a bit afraid to go potty right now. They did say
that I can put it in the fridge and just bring it in first thing in the
morning if she does actually poop tonight.
I'm still (obviously) concerned but at least now we have a little more
info. No real answers, but more info. I'm really not a fan of having to
just deal with the prolapse. Our insides are suppose to stay inside. But
since there isn't anything else I can do, we just have to wait it out
until it resolves itself or the specialist does something.
