Do you shop on Black Friday / Thanksgiving?

Since I doubt anyone will confess to doing it on this board, I'll ask in a clicky poll :) And I'm ONLY talking about going to the stores, not shopping online, so don't count that.

Never, ever, ever. I am ethically/religiously/whateverly against it.

I think that counts as "whateverly" ;)
And as for Black Friday, that's my main reason for not shopping then, too. Why, oh why, would I want to be part of the stampede?? But if there's a good online deal, then yes, I'm in :)

I'll admit! I never had before I met my H but one year we went out to Best Buy for a good deal on a TV. It wasn't like a fanatical, wake up at 3 am experience. We wandered in around 11, bought the TV we had already decided on and left. hoody hoo.

I've never shopped on Thanksgiving and don't plan to. I don't really know of anything local that is even open full hours on Thanksgiving. Also, I just realized I answered the clicky poll wrong lol reading fail.
And I just realized two of the answers overlap (occasionally and yes on Black Friday but no on Thanksgiving). Oh well.

  • Black Friday shopping was a huge tradition for my aunt and I for many years. I moved to a different state abou ten years ago, plus the kid factor, so I don't do it anymore. I'm all about cyber Monday now! I miss it though mostly because it was a special day I spent with my aunt every year

  • I would never ever go out on Thanksgiving. It disgusts me that this is a thing. I have gone out on black Friday. The deals aren't ever that great IMO, but I used to go with my parents and then we would go to Olive Garden for lunch. Now we all hate the crowds.

2 years ago, I had a 30% off for kohls only good for black Friday. I figured, I could go out after lunch, it would be nbd. I was in line for 2 hours. Never again.
  • No I don't dare set foot in a store. I hide behind my computer and shop online lol I hate crowds

  • I voted SS because I'm Canadian so it makes no difference to me :) plus I live in the absolute middle of nowhere - I will likely online shop if I need something.

  • DH loves Black Friday.  He won't get up crazy early, but he'll go to a couple of stores around 8 or 9.  He always comes back with stuff he's wanted for a good price - last year it was stainless steel trash cans for $20 and a Shark steam mop for $20.  He's also gotten my Christmas presents on BF before...the laptop I am currently using was a BF sale.

I just hate the crowds, and if I'm being really honest, I hate the commercialism of it.  I hate the idea of hoards of people physically hurting each other or being insanely rude or mean to save a little bit of money on whatever trendy item is popular that year.  Of all things...it's just not worth it.  I think it's just gotten nutty.  Our family used to go to Disneyland every Black Friday, and it was great - way better way to spend the day, IMO.

  • Never ever on Thanksgiving, I'm strongly opposed to that. But I've gone twice in the past on Friday morning. I don't like the crowds though. If anything I'd go in the afternoon/evening in the future, but I prefer to go to the candle lightning ceremony in the town square the next town over from me that night. It's very festive and cozy and makes me feel like I'm in Stars Hollow. Way better than fighting the crowds at the mall. ;-)

  • Now that a lot of stores are moving to open up on Thanksgiving Day instead of the early morning hours on Friday, I probably won't go out as much as I did in the past. I was a huge black friday shopper getting up at 1am in the morning and standing in line for the store that had the best deals (always got what I set out for too). I have never had a negative experience and I even went when I was pregnant with DS. I wish they would keep the stores opening up on Friday and not on Thursday.

  • Embarrassingly enough, I'm usually too full on Thanksgiving to even think of going to somewhere or *gasp* try on any clothes. I used to go Black Friday shopping in my youth. Now....sleep is so much more precious!

  • I would never go on Thanksgiving or get up super early on Black Friday. I am not a fan of shopping or crowds so it isn't my thing. If there was a really great deal and I felt like it, I might go out later on Black Friday sometime, but I haven't ever done it yet.

  • Not on Thanksgiving for sure. I have never been Black Friday shopping before, but I have my eye on a camera this year at best buy. I am hoping I can order online though. I don't really mind the crowd, but I'll be visiting my in-laws in a different state and don't really want to go alone.

  • Noooooooooooooo

However, I have worked on Black Friday at the buy/sell/trade clothing store that I used to run only bc I was GM and felt that I had to. We advertised as "super happy Funtime rainbow day" and had no specials at all, we just opened like a reg business day. It was worth it numbers wise but we didn't get hoards of traffic. We were near major areas of commerce but not near huge stores or malls.

  • I voted SS because I have gone shopping in the past, but it was never for cool stuff or awesome deals. Once I ran out of toilet paper. So it's that kind of daily stuff, essentials, that I've gone out for.

My mom took me out a couple years ago late at night on black Friday to buy a computer for my sister.
