Pregnant after 35

If you're tired, whine here

I was all excited about having renewed energy.  I was enjoying being productive, checking things off my list.  That burst seemed to only last about 10 days.  I started crashing on Friday and now there's no denying it; I want to sleep all the time.

I think LO is having a growth spurt since I'm having another round of RLP as everything stretches out.  That would explain the exhaustion.  There's hope that I might have some more energy soon.  Wishful thinking, maybe.

Re: If you're tired, whine here

  • I'm still waiting for that "your energy will return during the 2nd trimester" stuff. Yeah right.

  • My 2nd trimester energy came the last 2 weeks in that trimester. And lasted 2 wks. It was fun while it lasted.
Today I was on my way home from my moms and it took every ounce of will power to not fall asleep.

  • Ugh me either. I'm 12 weeks today and I'm exhausted pretty much every single day.  I used to make sure I was packing the kids lunches and my lunch and laying out their clothes and all of that stuff the night before. I never do it anymore. I'm too tired.  I just put them to bed and then I go to bed.  My laundry is crazy.  My house is a mess.. I never have the energy to do anything about it.

  • I kept saying to my husband all weekend "I feel so much better! I really think I'm turning a corner."

Then last night, I passed out at 7:30pm, slept over 10 hours and today feel quite tired again. D'oh!!!

Thank you for making it ok to whine about it. :)  And I hope you get another burst of energy after this growth spurt!

  • Update from yesterday's whining:

Despite feeling exhausted, I can't get decent sleep at night. DS is cutting molars, which just adds to the problem. The other night, I kept waking up with DH's head on my pillow, cramming me onto the tiny edge of our king-sized bed. I told him about it the next night and he said "I just miss you and want ot cuddle." Awww, so sweet. But I want to sleep. And I can't get a decent sleep when he's squishing me into the corner, breathing on my face, and making me too warm, and waking me when he moves, and he also smells and I never really noticed it until this pregnancy.

  • I'm more tired now In my second trimester than I was in the first. I've fallen asleep at my desk at work many times. I'm getting so big that I can't find a comfortable sleep position in bed lately and just end up tossing and turning. Maybe the upcoming third trimester will be better? Yeah...right.

  • The other night I slept in the recliner and slept thru my 12/1am pee time. It was heavenly. I ended up waking up for my 4:30 pee time and went back to my bed. Best nights sleep so far these last few weeks.

  • Sleep is not my friend these days. I just can't get comfortable for a nice deep sleep. And it doesn't help that coffee makes me get sick (only since pregnant). I have been avoiding naps since I want to sleep at night but may have to start trying to nap during the day.

And I also agree w @BeckyP005‌ - I don't know how you ladies with a little one to run after are doing it! Kudos to you!!!

  • Yes. So tired. All the time. Need to get more sleep but I love it at night when it's quiet and I can relax! The kids are whiney and restless right now and I am mostly ignoring them and trying to keep my eyes open.

  • So glad it's not just me! First pregnancy, partner is overseas, 8 weeks pregnant and totally exhausted. Sunday took a shower and needed a rest afterwards! I'm hoping 2nd trimester is better.

@charlie+7  It does get better. Cherish the good days in the meantime and just go with the flow. First trimester is a weird haze of zero motivation and total exhaustion.
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one.... freaking EXHAUSTED over here at nearly 26 weeks, but can't sleep for the life of me.  Can't get comfortable, can't shut off my over active brain, and when I do finally drift off for an hour or so, I wake up with INSANE leg cramps that make me want to cry.  I'm cranky and irritable all the time, because I'm just SO tired.  Ugh.  Please let it get better soon.
  • I started getting leg cramps this past week too @MrsJCool, though mine aren't as severe.  I increased my water intake and they're gone for now at least.  The internet says it could also be caused by insufficient calcium or magnesium.  Hope you feel better soon.
  • Thanks @NeonNoon, will try to increase my water intake, although I think I'm usually consuming 1.5L at minimum.... will look into the cal/mag as well, that was recommended to me my another FTM at prenatal yoga last night.  I'm sure a google search would offer plenty of other options as well..... and I'm pretty sure I saw a thread on one of the boards here RE: this very subject not long ago...  Appreciate your kind words.  :)
  • @MrsJCool‌ and @NeonNoon‌ those are the worse. Once I woke up the whole house in my last pregnancy by saying some very colorful words with those darn cramps. A little trick is to try and point your toes up during one. Easier said than done but if you can it does help. I had my first Charlie horse last night in this pregnancy and it took me off guard.

  • Thanks @mandyreads - I find standing up and trying to put my full body weight on the cramping leg has worked well for me, but after last nights episode my leg still doesn't feel right.  Might try more water today, a warm bath tonight and perhaps rolling on the massage roller thingy to see if I can get it feeling normal before bedtime.
  • During my first pregnancy, I had a leg cramp wake me up screaming. My husband thought I was in labor or something and started freaking out. Then he got a little miffed when I said it was a leg cramp. "Oh, 'just' a leg cramp" he said.

I usually try Gatorade to help with both the dehydration and the electrolyte imbalance.

  • I feel you!! I've been trying to push myself to get stuff done and it just wipes me out, but luckily I got to sleep in this morning! If I try to do too much, I do feel pain down low and my right hip or pelvis area keeps clicking... so I'm walking funny and already waddling!! UGH! *whine*

  • This is what I need... I feel guilty complaining because I'm happily pregnant.... I'm just. So. Tired! Laundry is waaaaaay behind, the house is a mess, and I just don't have the energy to do anything about it. My two year old has a cold so he has been extra cranky... Sometimes I just wish I could hide.... And sleep.
  • You can be happy to be pregnant without enjoying it.  I'm very glad I'm pregnant but it SUCKS.
