DD is just over 10 months old. She has 3 bottles a day and drinks 6 to 8oz each time. We also mix her cereal with formula, BUT she has been refusing cereal. I have 4 different kinds and she refuses all of them, when she used to eat them no problem. I want to make sure she is getting the correct amount. Our pediatrician says 24oz, but when she isn't drinking enough she gets it from the cereal. Any suggestions on how to get her to take more formula, or does it even matter at this point?
If anything she is getting less food, because we are trying to introduce table food. There is no exact way to feed a child, and everyone does things differently. I just don't want to do something wrong that is unhealthy.
That is odd she's suddenly refusing the cereal! My LO is 9 months and has been taking in less formula. He's a pretty busy baby so most of the time it's because he's distracted. I'd say unless she's seeming more hungry, or irritable, or losing weight, it's probably okay. You could try something else in place of cereal like another fruit or vegetable. I've heard the cereal isn't a super critical element to their diet while still on formula and getting other solids, it's more just to practice eating
@poohbear033 - My LO is the same age (same bday) and she started refusing her cereal a few weeks ago. She previously loved all cereal and just suddenly acted like we were poisoning her. At the same time, she seemed to reduce her formula intake as well. That lasted almost 2 weeks when all of a sudden she decided that she liked it again. I was pretty worried at the time because she's not a big fan of table food so I didn't think she was eating enough. What helped me get more formula in her was to put it in a straw cup. She loves drinking out of straw cups and would happily drink more formula from that.
Thanks for your thoughts and ideas. She was actually sick this weekend. Projectile all over me and everything. I didn't know something so little could have so much come out of her. Poor girl. She seems to be doing better, she will eat the cereal sometimes with fruit, but not always. She loves her straw cup, but we use it for water.
