3 weeks early - behind in milestones?

DS was born 3 weeks early so I'm wondering if he'll be a little behind on milestones or if that's more like if they are born 5-6 weeks early. He's 7 weeks now and still not social smiling my other 2 were smiling by 4-5 weeks. Just curious if maybe that's why?

Re: 3 weeks early - behind in milestones?

  • I don't know what the official answer is but DS1 was 3 weeks early and always seemed to be on the later end of normal as far as milestones go until about a year old. It's hard to say if that was because he was a little early or if that was just his pace.

  • Yes, I'm surprised your pedi hasn't mentioned adjusted age. Some babies, even slightly premature, need their age adjusted with regard to milestones. Some don't. When you say 3 weeks early, do you mean 37 weeks or 34 weeks?
