Every morning there's a certain time in my kitchen (usually when I go in for cup of coffee #2) that the sun comes through the window exactly right to hit every speck of dirt and every sticky spot on my counters and floor. In that half a second I go from feeling like I've got my shit pretty much together to totally overwhelmed. I need to put a sign on the door to remind me to just wait an extra 10 minutes so I can continue in blissful ignorance.
ahhh I'm so excited!! My girlfriend was due last Thursday and yesterday I told her we were going to walk that baby out. We went on a 6 mile walk and her water broke at midnight!!!
I am off today so my plans are to get caught up on Grey's Anatomy and Parenthood. I hope Grayson is ok without cartoons today haha he's dancing to bubble guppies as I type this and it is so damn adorable.
@subliminalrabbit regarding you working, are there any local baby/child stores? A lot of times they welcome you bringing your kid to work. And you are a reputable source for advice to consumers. Could you possibly do some consulting work from home with your previous experience? Money troubles are my #1 source of stress (seriously, like hemorrhoid-inducing stress), so I totally understand.
@subliminalrabbit Hugs. I can only imagine what that must be like. Are you crafty? Could you do an etsy shop for extra cash? I wish I could help
Hugs from me as well, it is very stressful but I'm sure you will get through it. Another option is do you think you could do any sort of tutoring? Around here the going rate is $20-$50/hour.

That's brilliant!! I think I might have found what I could do when I retire!!
Another part-time job that I never seen mentioned, is a referee. My dad refs soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey the pay is 50 bucks an hour. It is my post retirement job plan.
10 years of basketball will finally pay off!! I even have contacts with a Florida referee company. You people are going to make me quit my job!
I had a scary couple hours last night. When I tried to get up from the floor after changing B's diaper (he's cooperativeish on the floor, but screams on the changing table) I got a really sharp pain in the right side of my ribs. I've had it before, but usually only after I've been lying on my chest for too long. It's okay if I don't move, and hurts the worst when I take a deep breath. I've never had it checked out because it usually resolves pretty quickly. Well, it was so bad last night that I basically couldn't even bear weight on my right side at all. I sat down and watched a parks & Rec with DH to wait it out and felt fine, but still couldn't stand up afterward. Then I lied down and iced it (and fell asleep) and it was totally fine. I'm sure I just strained a muscle or something, but now I'm super paranoid that it's going to happen at work or getting out of bed and I won't be able to work. Sub plans are SUCH a nightmare for me. I should probably just suck it up and let them watch a movie for an emergency plan, but I'm just not that kind of teacher.
Music Man was the first musical I was in! The big high school production needed kids, so I was about 7 I think. I actually have the words to at least 10 musicals memorized. When we could get movies out at the library I would always get a musical, no cartoons. My favorite was West Side Story.
What time do you all usually start trick or treating? I've never been with little kids so I'm used to starting later in the evening but I'll need to start earlier with G but not sure what time.

Is there a certain time in your city? Ours is only from 6-8.
I never thought about that. Off to do some research!
I've had little kids at my door as early as 4pm, but usually the majority of the young ones start showing up around 5-5:30. We will probably go around that time, but we are just going to drive around to some of our friends houses, my mom's and a few of her friends who want to see M in her costume. We won't do any houses we don't know so I don't think its a huge deal if we are earlier than most

@calikat80 I watched every Rogers and Hammerstein movie our library had many many times.
Embellishing my Latt. Thank goodness for toddlers who fall asleep in the car on the way home from the paint store and actually make the transition to te crib!!
@steamboat123 that costume is horrible. I feel bad for the kid, honestly because any parent that is making a choice this bad for their child's costume is making other really shitty choices too. And this is coming from a mom who has a very high tolerance for inappropriate and is dressing her baby as a Chippendale dancer for Halloween.
@andreamarie77 I was due with A on 6/28 and remember feeling exactly the same way. Of course then he didn't actually arrive until 7/10... So I pretty much was pregnant forever.
I keep thinking about that Ray Rice costume. I'm not sure if I could really refuse candy to the kid, but I would say something. And if his parents were with him (and I presume they wouldn't be), they would get an earful.
I had this bratty teenage girl wearing black short shorts, a black leotard, and cat ears last year refuse to say "trick or treat" so I told her she couldn't have any candy. In general I don't think kids should have to "work" for their candy and in theory I would deny this kid candy, but it would be more like "you are a terrible person, have all this candy so all of your teeth fall out"
My pregnant next door neighbor just posting on our local young moms list serv that she is "planning to hibernate for the winter" and was looking for recommendations for grocery services that deliver. I wonder if everything is OK and want to offer her help if she needs, but I also don't want to be creepy/nosey. If I had any input about her actual question I would reply with that and add "by the way if you need help I could do some shopping for you" but I don't have any input about her actual question.
Trick or treating is only from 6-7:30 here- yup-- limited to 90 minutes of fun.
What is the point of the time limits? Other than you know time limits. Is someone ringing your doorbell at 5:30 or 7:45 that much trouble?
I don't know why the cities around here do that- but they ALL do. Oh and trick or treating is on Thursday- not Friday. That was a huge debacle in our neighborhood- there was a vote to move it to Friday- caused A huge divide in the neighborhood... Trust me, you do not want my problems.
Yup- it interfered with high school football- so basically all the communities around here moved it to Thursday. Might work out for us this year though- Thursday is supposed to be beautiful weather- and it is supposed to be really crappy out on Friday.
H got off work early yesterday! First time in almost a month that I have seen him before 4pm! We went hiking in this beautiful area near where we live. Lily was such a big girl and actually walked a good portion of the way. She even watched us walk and started skirting things like roots and rocks. We kept trying to give her a hand, but she would pull her hand away and continue on her own. It was cute! We had some nice family time!
@mcbush Well check that out, apparently there is subscriber and save! Off to do more research... There is "amazon family" for 20% of diapers with Prime, but few people I know have Prime because amazon.ca isn't that amazing.
Wait, are you guys saying that ToTing was just ... whenever you wanted? There weren't specific times to have porch lights on?
What kind of chaos was that?
Kids come starting around 5:45 and I think the last one last year was at 8:30. It was chaos I tell you!!!!
I have always trick or treated with no rules. One year it was raining, and I cleaned up because no one else went out that night and (since there are no rules) it didn't get "rescheduled"
Re: All Work and No Spam Makes Jack a Dull Boy
Also this title pretty much sums up my time right now except my name isn't Jack.

I'm in a musicals mood today. Listened to Prince of Egypt soundtrack and now have Once playing. I'm open to suggestions, any favourite musicals?
