How long is your LO typically awake before a nap? I'm having a hard time finding the balance between him being not tired enough (20 min nap) and becoming overtired (won't fall asleep unless he cries for an hour first). Thx!
He's usually up for 2- 2 1/2 hours. He takes two longer naps now and then he is up from 2ish or so until 6 and then we start bedtime. If his 2nd nap is only 30 mins. He will be up for 2 hrs and then take another nap at 3:30 or 4. Which pushes his bedtime to 6:30-7.
2-3 hours: at daycare sometimes 4 hours. No matter what I do lately her naps are 30 minutes so I've just accepted that; so she typically has 3-4 30 minute naps. Maybe once she hits 6 months she will magically take longer naps
There's a good chart on this somewhere, maybe someone else has easier access to it. LO is not a big napper, he's up 2.5-3 hours, 30 min nap, repeat then he could skip his 3rd and stay up for 5-6 before bedtime. Watch for early sleepy ques so you don't miss the window- glazed look, rubbing eyes usually come before cranky, this has helped me tremendously.
We started following this schedule from the Sleepeasy Solution book and it works perfectly for DS: 2 hours from initial wake up time, then 2.5 hours from when he wakes up from his naps.
For example... wakes up at 6:30 AM.. nap at 8:30 AM. He usually sleeps until 9:30.. so next nap is at noon. Then he sleeps anywhere from an hour to three hours for that nap. If 2.5 hours past his noon nap is past 4:30, then we won't do a nap.. we'll just do an earlier bedtime (for example - if he sleeps until 3 pm.. then 5:30 pm is too late for a nap).
Honestly no idea what they do at daycare but he takes two naps there at some point.
At home on weekends I put him down 90 min to 2 hrs after he last woke up and I find it's pretty easy to get him to sleep if we don't wait longer than that.

Had our first baby, Samuel Robert, on April 17, 2014!
PF fights the nap. She takes about 2 half hour naps a day. Sometimes an hour. She does sleep through the night. If i can get her down for an hour or two late afternoon its Xanadu.
Xanadu...all I can think of is Olivia Newton John on rollerskates
