Curious to hear from other STM+ what they are planning to do or have done in the past, if anything, by way of a sibling gift to give to their older child(ren). @meeshybee I saw you mentioning one in the hospital bag post, which I thought was a brilliant idea. My DS will be 5.5 yrs old when DD arrives.
Interested in hearing if you are planning something, what it will be, and when you plan to present it to the older sibling. So far the only thing I can think of is a tote full of activities (markers, crayons, books etc.) and a Big Bro t-shirt. Would love to hear from other creative moms. TIA )

Beautiful baby girl born 11.24.14
For DS and DD1 (ages 9 and 7) I just got them Big Brother/Sister bracelets. DD2 (who just turned 4) I got a bracelet as well as made her a Big Sister half-apron that I need to stock with random baby supplies (diapers, wipes, etc). I'm trying to make it a big deal that DD2 is my special helper so she won't feel left out. She's had me to herself most of the day since DD1 started school when she was a toddler, so it'll be an adjustment for her to not be the center of attention.
DD1 also customized some babylegs I made for LO. She wrote "New World" on them, so cute! I'm bringing those as part of the going home outfit and DD1 is very proud of that. Ina way that's kind of like a gift. I'm sure she'll let everyone know that she's the one who decorated them.

I don't think it's ridiculous. My goal is to make new baby a very positive event, DS's world is about to get turned upside-down.
Heck, even when you get a new pet dog, they say give your existing dog 75% of the attention and new dog 25% of the attention at first.
With a new baby, obviously the baby will be getting the majority of the attention because of the stage of life they are in, but I think it's good to have the whole family have some celebration of the new baby. Similar to when people get married that already have kids from previous relationships, and they involved the kids in the wedding. This is a life-changing event, not a kid's birthday party.
Not to mention, when DS comes to visit new baby at the hospital, the baby will only hold his attention so long. A new toy will be a good distraction for him.
So, even though I am a FTM, I also don't find it ridiculous. I find it super sweet and an act of including the sibling in this big life event.
We got DD a snackeez cup & ice cream shoppe playdoh (to give to her from baby). Just 2 things she's been asking for very frequently (& for a long time lol). I didn't really want to just do a "busy bag"...I don't foresee her spending long periods of time just sitting in the hospital though to make it necessary.
