I make a couple of things the same every year...or expect them to be there I don't usually cook thanksgiving. But my family's cornbread dressing and cauliflower casserole are staples!
I'm making a brined turkey breast, cornbread dressing, these potatoes done half white/half sweet potato {https://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/10/creamy-herbed-potatoes/}, cauliflower casserole, plus I need another side of two and dessert...I think find a delicious looking chocolate mousse pie with phyllo crust and a pumpkin gingersnap pie.
If we are home, this is what my menu will be: Bacon wrapped smoked turkey Cheddar mashed potatoes Skillet cornbread Sweet potato apple bake Jiffy corn casserole Pumpkin pecan cheesecake
...but we may go camping in the Keys so this may become some kind of campfire meal.
I think we are hosting this year, but I'm not quite sure I'll have the desire to cook..... Taking note of the recipes though! I'm getting so excited for the holidays!!

I will get the planked mash for you ladies. There are a few variations online but I can't seem to find the exact one my MIL and I used.... I sent her a message~
Our families are German and DH's mom taught me how to make her Spaetzle before she passed. DHs family loves it and requests it anytime they visit and even my family insists I make it for Thanksgiving now as well.

How do you all feel about Thanksgiving so darn close to Christmas?? You do it all over again in a month's time!! I always think about this since ours is early October.

We always have the regular stuff plus onion gratin, which is my favorite. And my mom makes green bean casserole from scratch which is the only way I like it.

Re: Thanksgiving Dinner...
Also I made a roasted brussel, yam, pearl onion dish as a side.
I can get recipes if you're interested. The potatoes were a unique twist this year.
Roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and garlic are another fav, but not everyone likes brussel sprouts.
For dessert, I love this pumpkin bread pudding. It's great with a cinnamon or bourbon whipped cream. It's pretty easy and you can put it together they day before and let it soak overnight before baking: https://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2007/10/pumpkin-bread-pudding/
if you like pecan pie, this one has been pretty popular when I've made it: https://www.finecooking.com/recipes/chocolate-espresso-pecan-pie.aspx
For apple pie, I really like this crostata. The cheddar pie crust is a must! https://www.marthastewart.com/347013/apple-crostata-with-cheddar-crust
Holiday baking is my favorite.

Cheddar mashed potatoes

The image shows a big loaf, but we did individual portions using an ice cream scoop. Almost the size of a baseball.

@nitecheese
Not that impressive because if we host I'm having the meal catered. I have no shame.

There's a chance I'll be back in SD by then, too.
