Trouble TTC

? for Ladies w/Hashimoto's High Antibodies

Hi ladies, I just had my antibodies tested for the first time since I've was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 7 years. My TSH levels are regulated and responding well to Synthroid, however, antibodies levels came back very high. Has your regular endo/pcp ever places you on a cleanse to bring down the antibodies? They're recommending a gluten-free/alkaline diet to reduce the toxins from my system. Any other recommendations you've received and has it worked with helping the thyroid produce hormones. My issue is low ovulation/progesterone. I'd love to hear your feedback.

Re: ? for Ladies w/Hashimoto's High Antibodies

  • I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's years ago.  I was told to limit gluten, but some is OK and to avoid anything Soy.  I was also warned that it may eventually come to having a complete thyroidectomy.  Thus far my levels have come way down since first diagnosed and my endo is fine with where they are for now.

Hmmmm. So, I didn't have Hashi's but I had Grave's which is a different thyroid autoimmune issue.  They use antibodies to dx Grave's as well.  Here's how it was explained to me.  The endocrinologist told me that basically my immune system was attacking my thyroid gland.  There's nothing I did to make it do that, hence the "auto" part of the immune issue.  The treatment for Grave's is different than Hashi's (for a couple of reasons) but no one ever mentioned that I needed to do a cleanse or eat gluten-free or any of that.  No one has since mentioned that, either.  Did your PCP tell you that, or was that endorsed by an endocrinologist?

I'm just going to put in a plug here for endocrinologists who specialize in thyroid diseases.  Most of them just focus on diabetes.  I would get a second opinion because from my knowledge of it, an autoimmune issue is not really related to your diet.  Hell, I could be wrong though.  I've just never heard a specialist say that before.  The only way they treated my issue was with medication.
Which medication if you don't mind my asking. It was endorsed by a regular endo. My RE was only initially concerned with the TSH levels. They mentioned the toxins that are going into my bloodstream are from leaky gut.  The leaky gut syndrome is triggered from inflammation in my stomach due to trigger foods I'm eating, mostly gluten.

Thanks, a regular endo is the one who suggested this regimen. I feel a little bit better. Between all the doctors appointments and different suggestions it's hard to differentiate who's out to get your money. He too mentioned if I don't bring down the levels over time (years) I would have to have a complete thyroidectomy.

  • I have Hashi's as well as endo. Nothing has helped bring my antibodies down. I've tried a lot of diets and "clean eating" I've done a couple cleanses. Hasn't made any difference for me. In fact in my last blood draw they are spiking and my lyphnodes are swelling. They did a biopsy of my nodules to rule out cancer. Ppl say acupuncture can really help! I am saving up to try that! For me the high anti bodies are causing a lot of issues with TTC my RE said some 42% of women with hashi have endo. I also have incredible joint pain and insomnia all due to the disorder. At this point it's just turned into managing the symptoms. Like I said I am trying acupuncture next FX I hope you can find something to help bring those numbers down!! Maybe if you do you can let me on your secret! Good luck sweetie!
