Stocking up on diapers, good idea/bad idea?

My DH and I are in the middle of trying to get our poor old house ready for baby. That included some electrical updates for safety reasons as well as a few other costly expenses. So money is a little tight at the moment and will only get tighter once I'm off work for 6-8 wks. What I was thinking of doing was clipping coupons for diapers and starting to buy a few here and there just to get stocked up. My concern is, my mom who hasn't had to diaper a child in over 18 years, said sometimes babies can be allergic to certain brands? Though I'm not sure how accurate her information is. Has anyone had a problem with any specific brand of diaper? Also what type of diapers do ya'll recommend?

If there was already a diaper discussion let me know! Didn't see one when I searched.

Buy sensitive skin ones just in case.  Open the smallest package if baby has an issue than you return the other packages.

    Test
  • Don't buy a ton of newborn ones!

  • Certain brands will work better for your baby's body. The only diaper that I found gave a rash was the target brand.

Put the money you would spend for diapers in gift cards. So much easier. No returns needed.

Definitely do this! Best idea ever

  • I got a diaper cake made of newborn diapers at my shower so definitely not planning on buying anymore of those. Love the gift card idea! Unless I find any really good coupons then maybe the small packages would work.
  • We tried a few different types of the biodegradable ones to ease our eco-guilt (cloth diapering didn't work out for us), but we hated them all. We've been using Pampers Swaddlers for over a year and love them. That's just us though... I would get a 2 or 3 brands and see what you like before stocking up.
  • I stocked up with my first baby and I've done it again for this one. Walmart will exchange even without a receipt if it's the same size package that they sell. I buy my diapers there anyway so I know the ones I have will always be possible to exchange.

  • I am stocking up now if I have a coupon that expires before LO is to arrive. I have a small stock pile of wipes as well but I only stock up on what I have a coupon for and you can never have too many wipes. My DD was not allergic to any diapers but for some reason pampers didn't fit right and she leaked out every time. I tried a few brands now I am Luvs loyal plus they smell good. Keep your receipts and exchange if a brand doesn't work. Also target and babies r us often runs free gift card promos with diaper purchases.good luck.
  • What about wipes? Is it silly to stock up on a bunch? I have found a lot of deals but not sure if I should buy yet. I'm cloth diapering so good on the diaper end. I'm wondering about sensitivity and diaper rash with some of the wipes. I do plan on buying the most sensitive I can find.

  • We hit up SAMs Club they were six dollars off the regular price for a few months so we went once a month and got a pack in a different size. The gift card idea is awesome though!
  • I stocked up heavily on wipes - I just purchased the pampers sensitive skin ones and it was so nice to not have to buy wipes for over 6 months. I did stock up on diapers too, my parents also bought diapers so we had a huge stock. Huggies leaked every time for my DD, so we returned all of the huggies boxes and exchanged them. We just taped the receipts to the top of the box when we bought them so returning was never an issue. I buy diapers from a bunch of different stores depending on the deals so taping receipts made everything so much easier.
  • I plan to hit up Babies R' Us, Target, etc. on Black Friday.  My friend did that and got a TON of diapers (relatively) inexpensively.  Plus you can usually exchange for a different size if LO out grows them.

Great idea didn't even think of that!
