I have been dealing with morning sickness that unisom and b-6 haven't been helping too much, so my dr. just prescribed me zofran. Then I went online and read about and saw the most recent studies recommend not taking it while pregnant due to possible issues with both mother and baby? Anyone else on this right now or find something that is more helpful for nausea?
I've been prescribed Diclegis that I take at night. The only side effect is that I'm sleepy the next day. I was told that will get better. I've also been prescribed Zofran if I need to take in addition to, but so far so good. Nausea is gone.
There are many many women on here that couldn't get through the day without Zofran or Diclegis. It truly makes the first tri bearable for many of us.
TRUTH
I take Zofran several times a day to keep my HG at bay. If you and your doctor agree that the benefits outweigh the risks and it helps you, take the Zofran.
Suffered through my first trimester and part of my second without it last pregnancy. I was miserable and so so sick. Zofran was the only thing that helped. It did make me really constipated though so take some fiber if you use it.
I've heard nothing but positive real life stories regarding Zofran usage. I have taken it occasionally but it generally doesn't work for me. It worked best through IV when I was in the hospital.
I'm on pregnancy #4 and took zofran with my first 3 pregnancies. I have three very healthy beautiful children. Without it I would do far more harm to myself and baby from lack of hydration and food. I'm on it again this pregnancy. Feel better!!
Currently there is no contraindication for zofran in pregnancy. The FDA is just further exploring any correlations. There was a study of 600,000 pregnancies in Denmark that found no evidence of major birth-related problems in 2013.
It's safe. I'm a NICU doc. I have never, literally never, seen a baby with a bad side effect attributed to zofran. Most of the pregnanct nurses and docs in my unit take it regularly.
