Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Beta Nightmare. Any Advice?

Hi ladies, I know that unfortunately some of you ladies have more experience with miscarriage than I do, so I am hoping you can give me some advice. My first pregnancy ended in a D&C on July 25. I had no bleeding and very little spotting after this procedure. However, I started some infertility testing in August and learned I still had HCG in my system. My beta draws are as followed:

7/25- 75314
8/27-  234
8/29-  187
9/17-   60
9/24-   41
10/1-   45
10/8-   25
10/15- 58

I have had what I considered 2 periods since my D&C procedure, Sept. 11 and Oct. 6. I temp and my temps have been all over the place with no ovulation detected on Fertility Friend. My doctors are telling me not to worry and sometimes it just takes a while for your body to get back to normal. I don't have any preexisting relationships with these doctors and find it hard to trust them.

My questions- Should I just trust the doctors and relax? If not, what course of action should I push for? We tried for 2 years to get this pregnancy and now feel completely stuck and unable to move on. Thank you to anybody who made it through this post.

I'm sorry for what you're going through. Have you had an ultrasound since the D&C? Just to ensure that there isn't any remaining tissue they missed? If it were me I would request one. But it could also just be taking a long time. My first loss my betas only reached 2500 and they took ten weeks to reach zero.
I know how frustrating it is to be stuck in limbo. Especially when you've already been trying for so long. ((Hugs)) I hope you reach zero soon.

@missmarypoppins I haven't been able to convince them to do an ultrasound to check on if tissue remains. I have been trying to get that just for the peace of mind. I think I was just surprised yesterday to see that my numbers went up instead of down, but I haven't had the docs call yet.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me. I am so sorry for your loss. IF just isn't fair.

It definitely sounds like you have retained tissue. If they're not doing something, especially after they started to raise again, then it's time to find a new doctor and get a second opinion. All sorts of complications can arise if it's not dealt with.

I'm sorry you're still having to deal with this. Good luck.

    I agree with kingLED
I would push for an ultrasound just to check. My betas dropped over 2 weeks this last time. The only time they have taken a long time and risen was with retained tissue that was still attached to a blood supply. It keeps tricking the body that something is still there.
Sometimes doctors want you to wait because the tissue may flush out with a period, however a beta rise may make this take longer as it needs to detach first to leave the body.
I'm sorry you are going through this.

Thanks, ladies for your opinions. You have given me reassurance that I'm not crazy in questioning the doctors. My doctor didn't return my phone call today and instead just sent me an email through the health system that she wants me to do another beta tomorrow to rule out a new pregnancy. I will do another beta tomorrow and while I am in the area stop by the office to make one last attempt to have them take me seriously. DH and I are checking insurance tonight to decide who to see as a second opinion. I need to learn to trust my gut!

I agree you need to get this further checked...I was just diagnosed with a partial molar pregnancy and one of the results is that HCG can rise later.  Rising HCG needs to be monitored closely.  I'm not saying you have this- most likely you don't, but they should rule it out.

I went over to my doctor's office after the blood work yesterday. She had already left the office to have a long weekend, but I talked to the nurses and left my doctor a note. I decided to contact my main doctor about this as well and she was livid. I have other health issues which leave me with a compromised immune system and open to a lot of complications, so she left a message with the other office. I am at least now on my way to getting this problem taken care of. I will update when I find out the extent of what's wrong and what has to be done to fix this. Thanks for giving me the push I needed to take control of my healthcare.

I'm in the same boat, minus the rising hcg. I even had my d&c on July 25. My last beta was this past Monday and my number was 27, which was exact same number as the week before. Last week I bled for 8 days and thought my beta would go done to 0, but nope. They are finally doing ultrasound on Tuesday. I'd push for the ultrasound!

I finally got my ultrasound today and they found retained tissue and another spot that "makes them worrisome but they can't identify" so I have an OR booked for tomorrow. Again, thank you for pushing me to take charge of my health and for all of the support you have given through this. You are all amazing women.

@fancefpp How did your ultrasound go? I apologize if you have updated in another post, but I haven't been strong enough to read much on the board right now.

@lovesmonkey Long story short, I have to have another D&C on Tuesday. My number only went down 2 points since last week. That coupled with the small amount of tissue they saw on U/S, lands me back in surgery. I'm scared and sad that this is happening all over again, 13 weeks later.

I'm glad you pushed for the u/s! I'm sorry you are going through this too! It really, really sucks.

I got home about an hour ago after spending 8 hours at the hospital. This doctor did a hysteroscopy before and after the D&E and said he was confident he got it all. He told my husband that he found tissue in both my uterus and the end of my left tube. I will get more info when he calls tomorrow. Thank you ladies for all of your support.

@fancefpp‌ For me having this second procedure 13 weeks later was harder than the first time. It just felt like a slap in the face for my emotions and I'm left wondering if it is truly over. If you want to talk feel free to PM me. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers (if you believe in that, don't want to force my beliefs on you).

@lovesmonkey- I'm so sorry you had to go through a D&C again.  Do you think it's because they missed tissue in the first one, or because it grew back again?  Did they say?

@FigureSkater8‌ Before the surgery yesterday it seemed everyone thought it was tissue that hed been missed the first time. The doctor did say that there are a few things to discuss when we see him for our follow-up.
