DOR but no problem getting pregnant? (loss mentioned)

Hi everyone!

First time for me posting on this board...and I've questioned whether to post, or what category to post in!!

****My loss*****

MMC blighted ovum 11/12, MC 11/13 maybe BO, MMC  8/14 tiny chromo normal boy made it 10 weeks/no HB at 12.

My details (and cannot my signature to save for the life of me!! anybody know why it is this way?) 39, DH 43, tested for "everything" through RE. All normal except DOR of <.16, FSH normal. Only 4 follicles were seen at the beginning of this year when I got tested. RE indicated last week that he did not think I would have any more or less of a chance getting a baby with or without IVF, as we seem to get pregnant very easily. He didn't seem to think pulling my eggs for IVF would necessarily have positive results. A DE was suggested, which with Dr. Google, is what they tell just about every lady with this issue. And there were many people who ended up having a baby with their OE. So... 2 questions:

1. Are you possibly in this scenario? If so, what are your plans? Just keep trying yourself? and

2. What do you do to not obsess about creating the perfect environment to cook a little one? And do you do anything special you would recommend?

I can't help but wonder if every single thing I do/eat, etc. will produce a better environment (like there is a secret way that I can figure out to get the rainbow) while simultaneously knowing that if I get a positive or neg result from a further pregnancy, I will never know what set of factors played into it. An example, oh, I did acupuncture the last time and we got a little guy in there, does that mean I should do it again?

Thanks in advance everyone!!

  • I have no experience or suggestions using ART/RE,  but do welcome you with best wishes!
  • This is a frustrating and difficult problems.  Have you had a full set of RPL testing; karyotyping, clotting factors, MTHFR, ANA and other immunologic markers, SIS or other tests to check the structure of your ute?
If you haven't had all this testing I would ask about it and consider seeking another doctor.  If you have than you are in a tough spot.  That would be unexplained RPL especially with a chromosomally normal loss which is really hard to treat (since you don't know what you are treating).  I can see why your RE thinks that IVF wouldn't be helpful.  Some have had success with lovenox even if a specific clotting disorder was never discovered.
You could consider XP to TTCAL or even PAL.  Also check out this thread

  • Yes, too many acronyms. Diminished Ovarian Reserve = DOR.

Yes @tlc35, I've been tested for all those things. Normal. I'm/RE's assuming  it is an egg quality issue. I hesitated to put it on TTCAL...but I'll try putting it on that other board! And thanks for that link. I never looked up "RPL" just RM and DOR!! I can never find that list of acronyms so I spend half the time not knowing what these more specific posts mean.

    Thanks for the welcome, ladies!

    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April

  • Welcome!  I don't have any advice either.  I know another poster with repeated, unexplained losses was offered clomid by her RE.  The theory was that even though she got pregnant easily, ovulating multiple eggs increased the chances that one would be good/stick.  I know that might or might not be appropriate for you, though.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

  • ticker warning***** PAIF response...

I had a similiar diagnosis to you at age 35... nothing major showing up in my labs, husband perfectly normal, had immune testing done and had a few minor things show up there but  nothing to point to any reason we couldn't get pregnant.  I did get pregnant spontaneously twice... one chemical pregnancy and first tri loss.  We tried everything...acupuncture, herbs, vitamins, weight loss etc,... What changes is when we started IUIs and I went from an "unexplained" diagnosis to DOR pretty fast.  On the highest dose of stimms my body wouldn't produce high quality (mature) follicles and I had very few of them when I did.  I also got the Donor speech and we decided to keep trying and do IVF with my own eggs.  All the cycles failed and two were cancelled due to poor response.  We tried several different protocols.  After a year and about 20 grand we decided to move onto DE which was expensive but worked.  It took me a year to accept that my eggs were crap.  It was a hard road of acceptance but now I couldn't be happier to be pregnant with two little miracles on our first try.

With a DOR diagnosis I think it comes down with how many resources you have ( money), time, and patience.  Only you know what you are comfortable with.  If you can afford it I would try with your own eggs with IVF atleast once so you have no regrets.  I knew after two failed attempts with my own eggs I had to choose another path, but I don't regret trying at all.  Some ladies just need a different doctor or protocol to have success.  There are many DOR ladies over on Pregnant after IF that were sucessful with their own eggs they just needed the right doctor and right protocol!

Good luck a DOR diagnosis is difficult but it isn't the end of the road

  • ksgsmu Thanks! I posted over there to see if I get any responses of what may be helpful. The best I can do right now is see if I am pregnant (I am at CD24, but have no idea how long my new cycle after last MC is supposed to be). If I am, I'm going to have them run some tests to make sure my hormone levels are good and supplement if they are not. If I'm not P, retake some of the indicator tests.

My ins pays for IVF with my eggs/DH sperm, so I would probably try that first--even though doc said he didn't think it would be helpful, but would do it if I wanted. DE is $29k and would need to get to the realization you came to...not there yet, but the night is still young.

In your sig, it says ER- We got 25 eggs! What is "ER"? And did the babies split or did they put more than 1 egg in (if you don't mind me asking). Excited for you!

    ***Siggy/picture warning*****
I'm trying to get active on the boards again after what has been a stressful summer, job change and an anovulatory cycle.

Your situation sounds alot like mine. I got pregnant fairly easy several times but my amh is pitifully low, I had several very early miscarriages and one at 9 weeks, all most likely due to poor egg quality. I had loss blood panel and everything came back normal so we just kept trying and were finally succesful at age 40 without medical intervention. We were on the verge of doing IVF, but like your Dr. stated, ours advised us that even on very high dosages I'd probably not produce many eggs. He felt like it was still worth a shot because we could see which embryos looked healthy and pick the best ones. We were going to try and if we got more than 4 we'd do IVF, if we had less than 4 we'd do an IUI.

Have you had an HSG test done to make sure your tubes are clear? I had one done two months prior to conceiving my son and also had a chemical pregnancy the month right after the HSG, I don't know if that helped but I don't think it hurt.

Anyway just want to wish you luck, I say just keep on trying. If you're able to do a medicated cycle w/ IUI or IVF, give it a shot. I got pregnant my first medicated IUI, but unfortunately it was a chemical pregnancy. It's literally just a  waiting game to get the right egg sometimes especially with low amh.
