1st Trimester

HCG Levels

Hey everyone so my HCG levels are very low my LMP was September 7th, 2014.

HCG level on 10/06/2013-14

HCG Level on 10/08/2014-28

HCG level on 10/14/2014-35

It did not double but the doctor said since it is higher they will check again in 2 days. Also my pegesterone was 9.2 on 10/06/2014 so they started me on 200mg a day and it was retested today 10/14/2014 and was 6.4. I wish someone would just tell me straight what this means.

Thank you,

Re: HCG Levels

  • About the progesterone I think I've read, and could be wrong, that it depends on the delivery mechanism as to whether it is well detected by a blood test. I've heard that suppositories up your progesterone but aren't as detectable in blood tests as the pills or shots.

About your betas. I'm so sorry, but that doesn't look good. I'm sure that someone has had slow doubles and had a healthy pregnancy, but with numbers that low with that slow of a rise it's not a good sign. I will say that I do hope your doctor continues monitoring you and I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I had a slow rise beta and dropping progesterone and ended up with an ectopic pregnancy, which is a good reason to make sure your doctor stays on top of this.

  • Just curious ... Is the monitoring of HCG levels something done after multiple losses? This is my third pregnancy and with both previous times I had one blood draw around 8-12 weeks and that was it. My doc relays mainly on ultrasound info which I gather from reading multiple posts is unusual. I have read that many women get only 1 to 2 ultrasounds during their pregnancy or just the 29 week scan. My doc will do an ultrasound in office whenever they feel necessary. I had a loss in August of this year and I am just curious if HCG levels is something I should be concerned with or not. They have never been discussed with my other two.
  • I meant the 20 week scan not 29 week
  • Unfortunately this doesn't sound promising. Your numbers seem similar to mine when i had a loss. Hugs to you and fingers crossed.
  • I'm going through the same thing at the moment... my last period was the 8th Sept 14... My HCG levels have been 8th Oct 68, 11th Oct 73 and 13th Oct 81.... They are only slowing rising... :x

Most doctors don't check beta hcg as a standard practice. Mine were because I had so me bleeding with my first, and was with an RE for my 2nd and 3rd. One blood draw doesn't tell you anything more than if you're pregnant or not, and isn't anymore useful than a urine test. If you've gotten ultrasounds and have no other reason to believe there's a problem you don't need the hcg draws. Plus, they're not really useful after 7 weeks anyways. I'm sorry about your loss.
  • My levels are also low and slow...155.6 176.6 129.9 154 200, am so scared and the hospital don't seen phased just said this isn't a 'good pregnancy' I was unsure of my dates due to funny periods but I dine a clear blue digital last Fri that dated me 2/3 weeks...I can't even think good about this pregnancy ATM because of the hospitals words ringing in my ears.... :(
  • So just an update I did have my levels drawn again and they were 15 and then two days later below 5.

  • Hugs to you. So sorry for your loss.
