mike mike mike mike, what day is it?

What, no random Wednesday thread? And no HDBD thread?

Re: mike mike mike mike, what day is it?

  • My neighbor gave birth to her little girl, who was born sleeping the other week. I wouldn't say we're close friends, but we're cordial to each other, and neighbors as I said earlier. I'd like to do something nice, just not sure what. She has a boy that's the same age as my girls. Should I offer to watch him, or have a play date? Give a little remembrance gift? Bring her food?

I saw this bracelet on etsy and really like it's message.

  • I'm sorry I started the thread with a bummer topic!

On another note, I just finished reading John Rosemond's potty training book and I'm feeling empowered! Potty training starts this weekend and the nanny is on board too. We're doing what he calls the N75 method where they're naked from the waist down.

  • That's sad about your neighbor, BCV. I'm sorry.

I'm in a mood today. MH is pissing me off because he has a man cold and is acting like he's dying, so has been zero help with the girls, house, etc, and also prepping for C's bday this weekend. Meanwhile, I have my period and the start of a migraine, but I'm not being a man-cold sissy pants about it, am I? Maybe ID like to sit on the couch like a useless lump and go to bed at 730. Can I do that? No?
  • We got back late last night from our trip and now im spending the day doing the mountain of laundry from before and during our trip. Wesley had a blast and even attempted to buckle himself into the stroller this morning wanting to ride horsies :)

  • My neighbor and I are goingto attempt to take pictures of the kids this afternoon. She set up an awesome backdrop. I can't decide what outfit I want emma to wear this is all we have in the closet. Pick one O12!

  • Took E to his speech evaluation. It went OK. The therapist wasn't concerned with his vocabulary, but she was a little concerned about how disengaged he is from interaction and how he doesn't want to use the words he knows. She gave me a book to read with techniques to help engage him more. She said because he's a) a 2nd child b) a boy and c) his father didn't start talking until he was 2 that E has some strikes against him in speech. It might also be that he doesn't hear a lot of talking going on at home because of DH being away. So hopefully he'll start chattering away soon! We'll go back in January to check his progress.

  • Lurker coming out again- DS uses the potty for the most part- I stick him in a pull up for naps and night time. I've tried getting him to potty before/after nap and it always fails (he might go but then he still goes while napping too). He has decided that his time to poop is during nap time. He used to always poop in the potty- not anymore *sigh*

  • Norah saw her regular pediatrician for her 2 year appointment today. We went over everything from her appointment with the developmental specialist. He thinks we can get her MRI done sometime next week and we will get the results the same day. It will be nice not to sit and wait for days on end. Still not thrilled with them having to put her under :(

  • @chricast I vote blue, but don't know if you already did it.

DD had her pedi appt yesterday. 35.5 inches and 27.4 lbs.  Her nails have been falling off (so gross) so the doc took a look at that and said they're brittle and he'll test for anemia, but from looking at her palms and such thinks if she has it it is very mild.  But if it comes back normal not to worry about her nails for now unless it keeps happening.  so we'll see.  I took DD to get the bloodwork done today- they had to stick her twice and she didn't even cry or flinch!!  I think she did better than what I do with it!!

Also DD has about 70 words and no two word phrases, he wasn't worried because listening to her at the appt he hears he "talking" so she is able to string "words" together, just not anything we understand.

My job interview: was really just me meeting with the doctor so he could go over what the job entails and if I had any questions, so it wasn't like an interview, exactly.  He really explained the job well and I'm not as scared as I was. He didn't say anything about when they'd be in touch, so now I'm just waiting to hear something.
  • Guys, my 4 year old, who has been potty trained for 14 months, has been having at least one accident a day every day for the past week. WHY NOW???!?!?!?! He does his potty dance, won't go to the potty when I tell him to, waits until the last second to sprint to the bathroom, and then wets himself. It's making me so fucking ticked off. I talked to his therapist about it today, and she gave me some ways to reverse it, but I'm losing it before I can think long enough to do what she said. This sucks.

@chricast, I vote blue!  It will be a nice contrast to the warm colors of the backdrop.

ETA:  Ok, those pictures are super adorable, and that owl outfit looks great!  I kinda want to set up a photo shoot like this now...

  • @Babycarryingvessel: I am so sorry about your neighbour's loss. Personally, I wouldn't do the bracelet - that sounds too personal and sentimental for a neighbour to give. I'd go with food, babysitting and just listening. And try to be sensitive to her needs: sometimes grieving people just wanted to be treated normally, not like there's a giant sign above their heads saying "I lost a baby!!" and other times they want to be able to talk about the baby and not just ignore this huge thing that has happened. Be there for her, but not too intrusively.

@cmarie97: so sorry to hear about your loss. It must still hurt.

  • You guys are the best. Great advice and you're right. Now that I've thought about it, the bracelet isn't right for this, but I just get all emotional and sentimental. So sorry for your loss, @cmarie79. I don't think I knew that and I appreciate your thoughts.

  • @cmarie79: Big hugs. I am impressed by your positive attitude.
