Success after IF

First IVF Success Stories?

I'm usually on TTTC but am looking for some positive stories before starting my first IVF cycle. I Just turned 39 and am about to start Lupron next week. No issues with me, other than my age. My husband on the other hand has severe MFI. We are using every penny we have right now on this cycle and it may be are only shot. RE says I have a 40% chance, didn't think that was so great. Looking for success stories on the first IVF cycle. Also, If we get enough eggs/embryos, I'm still learning, and it doesn't take the first try, can we just do an ET the following cycle? My RE said yes, but wondering if this worked for anyone? Thanks, looking for hope.

Re: First IVF Success Stories?

  • We did two fresh IVF cycles, and both resulted in pregnancy. A 3dt of 2 embryos brought us DS1 in 2011, and a 5dt of 2 embryos gave us our twins in 2013.  We have one frozen embryo from our second IVF cycle, but I don't have experience with a FET yet. Good luck.

    DX: DOR and MFI

IVF w/ICSI brought us our 1st precious miracle

  • My first fresh IVF back in 2011 brought us DS.  We are unexplained though, not MFI.  We had 7 frozen embryos from that cycle which we used 2 of for FETs last year - the first resulting in a cp and the 2nd in a BFN.  But our clinic does have just as high success rates for a FET as a fresh cycle.

    Good luck to you!!

  • I have been very fortunate.  My first, and only, IVF worked.  We had three viable embryos on day three, transferred the "best" two, and froze the remaining.  I got pregnant with a singleton and now, 6 years later, I am pregnant from a FET using our one frozen embryo.

I was given a less than 20% odds of having both the IVF and FET work.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • We were successful on our first cycle both times.  DH didn't have any issues, I had a blocked tube and some polyps that needed to be removed first.  I was 38.5 the first time and close to 40 the second time.  You can see the details in my siggy.  Good luck to you!

  • My friend's husband had severe MFI and IVF worked for their first try! We had unexplained, were given a 75% chance, and it worked on our first try as well.

Good luck, PM me with questions! The great thing about IVF is that it's a diagnostic process...every single step of the way, your doctor can learn about what works and what doesn't based on how you respond. It seems daunting at first I know, but you'll feel like you're actually "doing something" :):)

  • I feel so much better knowing so many get success with their first shot at IVF. When I posted this question a few months back regarding IUIs, I didn't get nearly the positive response. In fact, most recommended jumping straight to IVF. This gives me hope, thank you. Good luck to all who are doing it for their second.

  • I was young and DH was older and had an unsuccessful Vasectomy reversal so we had to do IVF with ICSI and he had his sperm aspirated from his epi. Crazy to think about how complicated it was.
We got a BFP first round and had our son (put in 2 5dt embies and one took).

Then we did a FET (we had 4 left), 2 didn't survive the freeze/thaw, we put in two poorly graded embryos in and it was unsuccessful.

Just scraped every penny we had together to do this last round bc I want another so badly. We didn't get any fro sties unfortunately, but we put in two great embies and I got my BFP over a week ago. It's literally our last chance because it just isn't affordable so hopefully this one sticks as well!!

I think as stressful as the process is, you should do anything you can in your power to be happy, de-stress, and be positive as much as humanly possible :) Good luck to you!

  • Hi all, I am 34 attempting my first IVF soon. I am on my second week of Marlissa birth control. Start Lupron 10-22, 2nd round of meds 10-29, with estimated egg ret 11-7 thru 11-9th, hope to do 5 day transfer. I'm interested in all stories. Mine is a little different. I have 3 kids from previous marriage, now remarried, husband no children of his own. I had a tuba ligation 11 years ago after my 3rd C-section. No previous history of miscarriage and/or fertility issues. Husbands semen analysis looked great (according to ivf nurse). Still nerve wrecking and worrisome since it is expensive and would love for it to be a success first time around. other wise may not be a second round depending on expense. any insight and success stories??

  • We are more or less unexplained and I am AMA. I had success with a eSET of a day 3 embryo when I was 37. I have 3 frozen (1 day 5 and 2 day 6 blasts) from the cycle. I hope to transfer another in the coming year. Hoping one of those will give DS a sibling.

I feel like there is about a 50/50 chance of everything working even with a perfect embryo and uterus. I think sometimes they take and sometimes they don't.

We purchased a multi cycle plan in the event the first time didn't work. I don't regret having done that even though we "overpaid".

  • Just did the beta today - Pregnant!
We had to go straight to IVFw/ICSI, mostly due to DH's morphology and motility, but my PCOS irregular ovulation didn't help any. But, I end up getting a ridiculous 28 eggs, 22 were mature and fresh fertilized.
Beautiful blast transferred day 5, and it stuck! Started feeling symptoms Friday evening (1 wk after transfer) and now here we are... just hoping that everything continues smoothly from here on in.
    Good luck!

I am 35, My first IVF worked.  Our issues were really all me, I have PCOS and am anovulatory.  We had tried IVM before, but it is a different process and it didn't work for a multitude of reasons.

We had 14 retrieved, 7 fertilized and we transfered 2 day 3 8 cell embies.  We had nothing make it to freeze.  One of ours stuck, and I am currently 16 weeks with a perfect little girl.

Most of the women I know personally have had their first IVF work, so that helped me prepare for this and keep my hopes high.  Also our clinic had a very high, over 50% clinical pregnancy rate.

    Good luck!
