Which name do you prefer for a girl? My husband and I are both private pilots with a passion for flying so we love the name Skylar, but worry it might be too "wild." With Emily our worry is that it might be too popular. Would love to hear your opinions or reasoning! Thanks!
To me, skylar seems like it will be very dated 10 years from now and it's just not pretty enough to look past the trendiness. Ex- Sophia and Ava are trendy names right now but they are very pretty names so they get a pass vs something like skylar or Madison.
I really don't like the sound or look of Skylar. It makes me think sclera (whites of the eyes) for some reason. It also sounds like it will be dated before long. I know it is a place name (and some people on here are very much against that), but I think Skye has a much nicer, more classic sound to it, but still evokes the sky, as you wanted.
Emily is fine. Nothing wrong with it, but it does not excite me.

When you kid goes to school and they call Emily, there will be 5 or 6 in one class and they may have to go by their last initial. I am not a fan of Emily and I will catch crap for it. Walk into a store and say Emily 10 kids will turn around, but if you say Skylar, maybe 2 will turn around. Go with Skylar.
Skylar is a craptastic spelling of the Dutch surname Schuyler. In Dutch it means scholar. Literally nothing to do with the sky or flying. I personally love the name if it's spelled the correct Dutch way. If not, I find it ironic that parents choose to name their child a name meaning scholar and spell it incorrectly.
FWIW I'm an Emily and there are millions of us out there. I'm cool with Amelia Skye though.

Began researching EA in 2014.
No longer pursuing EA due to fibroid complications.
I voted Emily only because I work as a preschool teacher & have met solo many lil skylers this past year. Either name is cute though but i feel like emily is more classic.

No there won't. Never going to happen for any name, even the number 1 names on the SSA list. Check the actual number/percentage for the number of babies given the currently popular names and you'll see what those rankings actually mean these days.
