New here- Intro and questions (child and loss mentioned)

Hi! I'm new here and I wanted to introduce myself. I also have some questions about my upcoming protocol at the REs. We've been ttc #2 since 1/2014 (got preg with #1 on cycle day 68 with no help did not even really know there was a problem) with a chemical preg 3/2014 and a 6 week M/C in 7/2014. Most of my cycles run 35-50 days with a luteal phase of 9 days. Did round #1 of 100mg of clomid in cycle starting end of August and got a BFN. Saw RE yesterday to figure out what our game plan is. He first suggested 4000 units of D3 and 81mg baby aspirin- is this a common recommendation? He also wants us to do a full cycle of meds this month but prevent so he can see how I respond to the meds and also how my blood work turns out- normal? He wants to do 150mgs clomid and then luteal HCG as well. Anyone have any advice? I don't know anyone else struggling with having a baby and I am hoping to get some answers and support here!

Welcome, and I'm sorry for your losses.   The D3 and the baby aspirin are not unheard of, and depending on what your RE saw in your bloodwork it's a good idea to do it.

I have not ever heard of an RE doing a full cycle of meds while having you prevent... especially since he has already done a medicated cycle with you.    Also HCG is a pregnancy hormone, so if you're preventing, there won't be any in your luteal phase.

Often medications + progesterone support are used to treat a luteal phase defect.

Something doesn't sound quite right.  Maybe your RE wants to make sure that your luteal phase will be corrected enough to sustain a pregnancy?

@Rumbera28, I've heard of people doing that before IVF as a baseline to see how the body responds. I don't know if that's the direction the OP is going, but I have heard of REs doing TTA cycles like that before. Also, hcg can be used to treat a LP defect instead of progesterone.

ETA: fixing my tagging which I'm apparently all messed up with today!

He didn't do the first round of Clomid my OB did but then refused to do any monitoring or testing afterwards which is why we switched to the RE. The pharmacy called it HCG but he said it was a mix of progesterone and estrogen that I inject during the luteal phase to help boost the progesterone. He just took blood yesterday so he has no clue what's in my bloodwork yet but based on the short LP and my super thin lining he assumes that progesterone is an issue. I'm really confused about the HCG thing I will ask when I see them for u/s at LH surge.

Thanks all! I was upset about the missed cycle but he did say if we have another m/c which he thinks is quite likely he will make us wait 2 cycles while he runs a RPL panel

Oh my gosh, I hope you don't have to experience another loss. It sounds, though, like your RE is taking really thorough care of you and trying to address all possible issues before getting you KU! :D I've heard that some women take their hCG trigger shot in multiple doses because it sustains the luteal phase.

You may also want to try the trying to conceive a sibling board, most on this board are still trying for their first. Also, put a warning about the losses. Good luck.
