Infertility

Not your typical PIO Question - A little TMI!

Has anyone else broken out in welts and/or rash on their bum from the PIO injections?  If so, did your RE change your meds or give some advice?  About a week and half after starting the shots I began having red, itchy welts on my bum, which spread almost all over the area needed to take the shots. I have stopped taking the shot due to BFN, but the rash has remained. I have been taking Benadryl which has helped the itching, but it still does not look pretty. I told my nurse and she did not seem concerned.  She asked if I was allergic to sesame seeds, and she said not to worry about it since I have never had an allergic reaction to sesame seeds before.  TIA!

  • I did! I had to change from the sesame to olive oil base. It helped some.... But frankly it is just because oil is sitting in the muscle. The oil has been known to cause abscess too. It's pretty nasty stuff..... But I'll shoot myself in my ass if it gets me a baby lol

  • I swear I have scars from the damn stuff. I didn't break out in a rash though. They can change it from sesame oil to another type and some ladies here reported an improvement. I'd push for it if I were you, talk to the nurse again.

  • YES! Started a freak allergic reaction about a week ago. I got put on suppositories while I had progesterone in olive oil ordered in. Did the first shot tonight. My rash is awful! And it doesn't seem to get any better! It's actually turned a dark purple color so I'm a little nervous it's going to scar. I am Irish. We are a pale people. Such rashes are not good! My doctor also does not seem concerned, but I sure am!
  • My nurse didn't seem concerned.  She offered to change it to progesterone ethyl oleate for my next FET.  Has anyone tried ethyl oleate?  Everything I read online is confusing.  Some people love it, some people hate it.  Research shows it is just as effective.  My nurse stated some people say it burns, which is the part that scares me.

  • Yes I totally have this.  Luckily for me it is relatively localized.  For my fresh IVF and first FET cycles I had no issues with PIO.  For this FET, though, I started to have these itchy red squares (they're shaped exactly like the Bandaids I put on) at the injection site.  It's rather annoying, but it does go away within a few days.  When I called my doctor about it the nurse said to keep an eye on it and thought it might be the Bandaids (I tested, it's not).  Problem still happens with every injection, even with new vials.  I don't recall ever being allergic to sesame oil, but who knows.  The nurse didn't seem too concerned about it since it seems to be staying at the injection site.
