@rondokye DS pushes up the sleeves on all his long sleeved shirts so I may as well keep him in short sleeves. He does like his zip up hoodies though- maybe E will do better with her cardigans?
I wish I could get in the spirit to start Christmas shopping in the summer. Waiting until after Thanksgiving, or even after Halloween, was fine and dandy before kids, but now there is just too much to do. In the fall the weather is finally nice enough to spend lots of time outside, so I would much rather be at the park or the zoo than shopping. I usually start thinking about Christmas in September and try to get going early. In fact, many of you will be appalled by this, but I think I'll listen to Christmas music while I'm working today to get inspired.
In other news, DH and I had our 8th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, and have yet to even exchange cards. Work has been really busy for both of us so we're just trying to hold things together. I declared that our anniversary will be celebrated tonight. It will probably involve takeout and a DVD from Redbox that we've never heard of because we are out of touch with popular culture.

It is 7am 3 pages. I am catching up now but Liam keeps shoving his shoes in my face. It is like he knows we are supposed to hang out with @Rmnam1 and @EAGUIRRE2
@somerandomchick I will be buying things online or giving gift cards. Amazon, Etsy, and the gift card rack at the grocery store. F the mall. My LO has never been one to sleep in my arms. She nurses briefly, which isn't enough to Bump, much less shop.

I sure do hope so. I tried pushing her sleeves up this morning while she was eating breakfast and that made the sleeve issue worse.
My grandmother is 86 years old and has had some health problems as of late but the one thing she is concerned about on a daily basis is making her annual GYN appointment......
I would guess sometime around that age would be when you "age out" of having an GYN exam.....
I have a job interview today! It would be full time opposed to my very part time work at the school. I'm so torn because I absolutely love being with my LO the majority of the week but the extra money would be nice.
More time with LO and have to budget/be tight with money or less time with LO and have extra funds? :-?
Yay for the interview! Tough question you're facing. What matters most is how you feel about it. (How's that for a surprise...) C+P from this site:
What Matters Most to Children and Parents
Ellen
Galinsky, executive editor of Work & Family Life and president of
the Families and Work Institute, interviewed a diverse group of 1,000
children, ranging in ages from 8 to 18 about changes they would like to
make in their parents' work lives. The results were compiled in the
book, “Ask the Children.” Overwhelmingly, kids said wished that their
parents would be less stressed and less tired from work and what matters
most to them is the quality of their relationship with their parents,
not whether they work. It also found that children and parents feel more
positive when they value the time spent together, whether it’s sharing a
meal, being around each other in a relaxed way or doing a special
activity.
Working Is Not the Most Important Variable to Child Development
Galinsky
concluded that whether a mother works or stays home is not the most
important variable for influencing positive child development. Rather,
it's a combination of many factors, including the mother’s comfort level
with her decision to work, the quality of child care, the income the
job brings in and the warmth and responsiveness she shows to her child.
“An at-home mother is not automatically an attentive mother, nor is an
employed mother necessarily inattentive,” Galinsky said.
On the rare occassion when I shop for Christmas early, I forget that I did it and find the gifts I hid in April or August months after Christmas.
That said, this thread has inspired me to order DH's birthday gift (it's in late Nov), because I always run out of ideas between supplying them for his family for both holidays and thinking of some for myself, too.
@casey78, our DC has date nights too but we have never taken advantage...I like the idea of picking up the boys to bring them home for a little while, and then taking them back...
I am working from Starbucks this am because our house is being cleaned right now and I like to get out of their way. I'm enjoying people watching and all these women in their cute "Friday casual" outfits are making me want to go shopping for some new stuff! Also, I saw a girl with her son and her newborn baby...recognized her as a girl I went to undergrad with and she was in my teacher ed program--I remember faces and not names so I didn't say hi. Seeing her little newborn is making me have all the sadz for no moar babies for me But, DH's cousin is KU'ed and we just found out that one of DH's best friend's wife is KU'ed also! Both live out of state but I am excited anyway
In other news...we confirmed dates and location of DH's best friend's wedding next March--it's going to be in Playa Del Carmen! Now, to convince MIL to come stay with the boys for a few nights so we can go sans-kids... It will kind of be an early 10 year anniversary trip for us, too...would be fun to stay one night at our honeymoon hotel in Cancun while we're in the area! <:-P
So since I've been on maternity leave, I've been hoping to find a new job. While I love my job at the dental office, there are major changes happening and it's very unstable. The two offices within the practice are separating and the dr i work with is buying the office I work in and starting his own practice. If he didn't buy it, it was going to close because the practice is so far in debt I almost didn't gave a job to go back to. But I interviewed for one job, didn't get it. I have an interview for another job next week. So I guess we will see what happens!
Ooh, @denverbride2005, a trip to Playa del Carmen will be so nice! Especially in March when winter is still dragging on! DH and I took a trip to that area a few years ago and it was so pretty there.
Kudos to all you early Christmas shoppers. For me, early Christmas shopping is at Thanksgiving. I'm always scrambling for gifts last minute. Plus, I don't think I can shop early for DS because I know I'd end up giving him his present way before Christmas.
I don't know what's gotten into our nanny, but this week she's been showing up for work dressed like she could be going to the club. Yesterday was short shorts with a leopard print halter top that was lace in the back. Today it's daisy duke shorts again (short enough where the pocket material sticks out from the bottom of the shorts) and a crop top. The shorts just look so uncomfortable to me. I guess I'm just old now, but the last thing I want to deal with is jean shorts riding up my who-ha or my butt!
Sorry I haven't been active today, girls! Anyone at O'Hare? I'm stranded here for awhile. I hate American Airlines. I never have good luck with them.

@redrocksmama LOL! Sometimes my nanny comes to work in a short dress and I'm like hmmmm... can't imagine that being comfortable all day. If I was a nanny I'd be wearing yoga pants!
I'm here again trying to make an effort to post more! I am just finally getting finished with reading the spam thread, it's hard to get through it when work keeps interrupting me. Stupid work .
My baby fever is really ramping up (although that's not really news). BFF has a 7 week old, BIL & SIL in NOVA have a 10 day old that I am constantly getting updates on, and just found out other BFF is 8 weeks pg. I want a babbbyyyyyyy! I pulled out some of L's newborn clothes to hand down to niece and I was in tears looking at how tiny they were!

@Audrey1787 thanks! Scarlett is a handful but so so cute I can hardly stand it. Both of my girls love helping me in the kitchen which is so fun for me. My mom and I love to bake and cook together!
Don't feel bad about being excited to come to work. It's great that you love your work and doesn't mean you don't love your little girl.
Edited to change guy to girl, sorry Audrey! I know you're LO is a girl!
And speaking of baby fever... Lillie's got it too! She is so obsessed with baby dolls! Her favorite one sleeps in her crib with her every night and she has others she drags around. Yesterday her teacher sent me pics of her at nap time sleeping ON a baby doll. She would not let go of the baby when it was time to clean up so they just let her keep it. This girl loves her some babies!
I have been adrift on a vast dialogic sea of insignificant signifiers, peppered with unwashed undergrads and broken dreams.
AKA my mom is in town this week hanging out with Luke so I can get some extended child-free work time, so I vowed to stay off the social interwebs (with the exception of checking in on my mom's Grandma + Luke Facebook saga) so I would not waste that time. But we had a GI appointment this morning - a good one, but we were there for 3 hours and had to draw blood and it was kind of horrible and I just want to sleep - I am at the end of my rope re: sleepless nights - so I am taking a break for coffee & TB.
In related news, I just had a fantastic discussion with one of my favorite fellow grad students about my dissertation, and he confirmed that yes, what I'm writing might be crazy, but it actually makes a lot of sense and it might also be awesome <:-P

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts! DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome. 131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
After he got poked, Luke got his very first sucker. He hated it. Here he is in a staredown with it.

Jack and friend made up a game called " Golf Hockey Dance Party." Brynne decided to join until she saw that it was a potentially terrifying situation and booked it away.
I laughed so hard.
Golf Hockey Dance Party will be the next big thing. All the kids will be doing it soon! Straight out of the burbs of Chicago!

Ugh, I just had to call DirecTV to ask them a question about my bill. The guy I talked to hardly spoke English and was frustrated with me for not understanding. I was confused in the first place and now I'm super extra confused and frustrated. Just explain to me in plain reasons why my bill is different this month. That's all I need!!
I should probably have asked for a manager but holy moly. I just wanted to get off the phone.
So we officially switched to a convertible car seat. My biggest fear is her falling asleep in it. It is too hot here to sit in nap jail. Luckily for me she fell asleep at the mall in her stroller. Good thing there is food, ac, and bathrooms.
