It's official...... Time to go peanut free.....le sigh.

That's right. LOs long awaited allergist appointment this morning confirmed a peanut allergy No other nut allergies but we are now loaded up with epipens tomorrow morning DH and I meet with daycare to discuss a treatment plan if the need ever arises. I can't believe this given that there are no other food allergies anywhere in either family. Part of me is grateful she will never get to love peanut butter the way I have.....part of me is terrified of the need for an Epipen (and the 911 call that must follow it)......and part of me is annoyed with DH for carrying on like life is over. Ideal- no? But he's being a tad dramatic......... Where are my other peanut free moms? I'd love to hear insight and experiences on making this easier!

((Hugs)) that sucks, but it's definitely not the end of the world. Tell YH to grow up and put his big boy undies on and deal!

I hope you never need the epi pens, but being prepared is a great thing to do!

No insight, just wanted to offer you a big hug! I know a lot of families with peanut allergy and their lives are pretty liveable. And there is always a chance with age and treatment that it can improve. As in they won't react if peanuts are in the room.

Right??? I want to smack him right about now. I get feeling helpless - but there are way worse DX to get than a peanut allergy.

Big hugs! We have a suspected nut intolerance with P. I'm sorry YH is being ridiculous about it. I understand how panicked he probably is. I'm struggling already without an official diagnosis. Hopefully he comes to terms soon. I'm sorry about the allergy. I am glad that schools are becoming so aware and proactive now.

Make sure you make your instructions very clear to the school. Make sure they know to call you if anything happens. Make sure all care givers, including your parents/ILs are very clear on the peanut thing. Recommend keeping the whole house peanut free to prevent slip ups.

Oh nuts! What a bummer. Good luck with the transition, but if it is just peanuts I've heard sunflower butter is amazing.

I am sorry. I don't have any experience, but I have a cousin who has a severe peanut allergy. They always had the epi pen around, just in case. Thankfully they haven't had anything scary happen in a long time and he appears to be outgrowing some of the other food allergies he used to have.

I'm sorry about your daughter's diagnosis. I think your DH is just processing how life will be different from now on and maybe a little scared about keeping DD safe.
Obviously you will need to keep your house peanut free and read labels very carefully.
There are many online information and support groups for food alkergy families.

Hey JBDamonM. I still can't imagine a life without nuts!  WE live on peanutbutter in our house. Right now I am told Peanut could set off DS so I am not allowed to touch for two years and also just got my epi-pens for him last night. I just printed out the info from the epi-pen site to attach to his epi-pen for daycare showing pictures etc god forbid it's ever needed. I'm just letting you know since I just got mine yesterday. Epi-pen has a coupon right now to save you 100 bucks off the epi-pen on their website.

@mcgeeva - that coupon was a godsend. 3 epipens should've cost me $216.......actual price paid.....$0. Honestly the best break I have caught in quite a while
