Birth certificate

Hello everyone! My name is Jennifer! My wife & I found out 2 weeks ago that we are having a baby & had our first ultrasound yesterday! We are very excited! Anyway, here is my question.... We live in Mississippi where same sex marriage isn't recognized. Does anybody know how that will affect the birth certificate? What i really wanna know is whether I'll be able to put my wife's name on the birth certificate? Thanks for any help!!

Since all state laws are different, you might want to check with a lawyer in your state. That way you will know for sure.

Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm from MS, but have lived in Texas for the past 10 years. Since my wife and I live and had our son in Texas, I'm not 100% sure of what options are available in MS, but I'm certain that you will not be able to add your wife's name to the birth certificate. And sadly I think MS is one of the remaining states that does not grant same sex second parent adoptions. Your best bet is to find an attorney well versed in LGBT issues who can draft as much protections as possible for your wife. It's a sad state of affairs that hopefully will change sooner rather than later. Best of luck to you both.
