I hope I'm not the only one planning LO's costume!

Re: Halloween!

  • Am I the only one that can't see what this post is? It's really bothering me. My curiousity is killing me.

  • Before the picture showed up, I saw a piece of the post saying, "I hope I'm not the only one thinking" so if I had to guess OP wants to know what LOs will be for halloween
  • Loading the player...
  • LO is just wearing a pumpkin hat while he sleeps in his carrier and DD trick or treats.

  • I have already gone overboard with costume hunting. I bought a skunk which was what DH and I 1st agreed on. Then I saw all the cute Disney costumes that I fell in love with when LO tried them on. We have 4 more to choose from now. At the very least LO will dress up every time we go to Disneyland to get use if these costumes :)
  • Sorry I forgot to resize the photo I will edit once I'm back at my desk!

  • Ugh DH wants to dress up DD. I don't want Halloween as a tradition in our house - I absolutely loathe it. Kids knocking at the door drives my poor dog crazy, 90% of "kids" who show up are not in a costume because they're too old, and I think it's just an excuse for girls to wear as little clothing as possible and have it be okay. So yeah...no Halloween in our house. DD is adorable enough. She doesn't need a costume.

I'm a little bummed that we don't be able to take her around to at least our relatives and friends that love close by, since we have a wedding to go to. Since Halloween is on Friday this year our town is doing trick or treating on Saturday- I'm guessing due to football games. LO will be dressing up to go sit with grandma and great grandma as they pass out Halloween candy. Daddy and mommy will be dressed up in pictures with her.

  • I love Halloween, but not dressing up
the baby this year. When she's bigger and can trick-or-treat she can have whatever costume she wants but it seems silly to dress her up just to sit around the house.
  • Im not planning on getting a costume this year, but I did buy some glow in the datk skeleton pjs from.gymboree gor DD to wear. She will probably doend all day in those.
  • My friend is lending me her bumble bee costume.  I found super cute jammies at Old Navy that say "I'm Batty for my Daddy".  I'm more excited about those!
  • I don't mind little kids knocking but I get annoyed by parent with just a baby knocking for candy.
  • Halloween rivals Christmas as my favorite holiday so you better believe we are dressing DD up! I already have multiple Halloween outfits for her to wear throughout next month (thank you, Carters). See loot below.

I'm thinking DD will probably be a ladybug (see pic below, again thank you, Carters) - we'll knock on a few neighbors' doors and then I will drink wine with some other neighbor mommies :)

  • We got DD a long sleeve onesie that says BOO, which is great because that is also her nickname. I was going to try to find a costume but I may just be too lazy about it.
  • I love Halloween in our neighborhood. We have a ton of kids here and I love seeing them all in costume. I always try to talk to them about what they are but they are usually not interested in conversation haha.

I will dress up baby girl if we plan to go to any Halloween related events, which is likely because im in a local mom's group. We won't be trick or treating with her, and we won't be decorating the house until next year. (It's work and costs money).

    Isabella & Julian & and now #3!
  • Baby girl will wear a little Carter's outfit that says I have daddy under my spell, with stripped black and white tights and a tiny witch hat I found at Target.

We might be guilty of this this year

@jennyinheaven - I have that shirt :) I bought the striped pants/tutu combo to go with it. Where in Target did you find the witch hat? I. Must. Have. It.

  • Damn @Mimaloo‌, that's harsh. I get not wanting to do it this year because LO is too little to trick or treat. Maybe you'll change your mind when you see what a kick they get out of it in years to come. I used to get so excited over Halloween. Not trying to sound judgy. Just seems a little extreme.

Also, my LO is likely going as Tinkerbell. We will just do a short trick or treat session around the block so we can say we took her. Then I am going out for Halloween for the first time in like 5 years. I'm brunette and my bestie is blonde. We are going as Wayne and Garth from Wayne's World. LOL!!!!!!
  • Halloween is my favorite holiday. I have tons of sleepers and outfits for LO already. Older DS is going to be Bumblebee (transformers) and LO is going to be Optimus Prime. I die laughing when I see them dressed up. DS1 is super into trick or treating and our neighborhood has a Halloween parade. We are the house that is fully decorated and we get hundreds of kids stopping by for candy. I love it!

  • When MH first talked about kids we decided their first Halloween will be a ketchup packet.. I found the costume but I'm rethinking it. I have no idea what I want LO to wear

Good luck with that when your kid is school age and wants to dress up for the school party, or wants to trick or treat. Maybe you can tell your kid, no, based on your own annoyance (not a religious reason or something) but I plan to allow my child to safely participate in things they want to do.
And fast forward a few years when your daughter wants to parade around in her underwear? Because I've been teaching middle and high school for 8 years and that's pretty much what the standard costume consists of for most girls.

I nannied for a family with 3 kids who didn't do Halloween. The kids are now 14, 12, 10 and they've survived a life without Halloween. They have zero emotional scars.

So yeah. I have no problem telling my daughter that Halloween is a b.s. holiday that we just don't celebrate at our house.
  • We will probably go to the zoo . They throw a little scare zone called zoo boo. It's harmless. It's something to do. I have no idea what else we could do unless one of dhs friends throw a party or something. And I'm going to make sure toots has the ultimate costume

    It's a BOY

  • DD1 was a tiger at the playground's Halloween party last year. We won't go trick or treating this year as she's still too young, but she'll dress up for the playground party. DD2 will just be in the carrier underneath my coat so I no point in dressing her up.
  • We live in Texas and it's still normally quiet warm for Halloween. All the cute animal costumes I love are super thick! I did find an adorable Alice in Wonderland dress on etsy I may get. We will just sit outside to hand out candy. No walking around. It'd be super cute if I could get DH to dress like the mad hatter and I could be the queen of hearts but I'm not that ambitious.
  • DD1 said sissy should be a sheep. I love that idea, esp since DD1 was Little Bo Peep 2 yrs ago, and the costume was huge and still might fit. Not sure exactly what I'd do for a sheep costume, but we'd figure something out. Maybe even just a white or black outfit and a knitted or sewn sheep hat.

We've done Alice in Wonderland H wore a Mad Hatter Tuxedo T and I wore red shorts with a tank that looked like a playing card. It was really simple. This is the shirt--she actually made the design based on my request and now she has them listed in her shop. https://www.etsy.com/listing/203313983/mad-hatter-costume-tuxedo-t-shirt?ref=shop_home_active_2 I did my shirt at a local shop.

@danabsd‌ that's really cool! DH could prob agree to that. He wears a stupid horse mask every year so a change will be good. Thanks!!

*ETA just showed this to DH and his exact words were "I'll just wear my horse mask." You win some, you lose some. I thought it was fab.
  • My little guy has chunky arm rolls that totally look like muscles, so I'm copying one of my favorite bloggers and dressing him as a strong man at the circus.  I'll be a bearded lady and DH is going as ringmaster.

Here's the inspiration photo.   How adorable is her family anyway?? https://www.kellehampton.com/2013/11/family-circus-halloween.html

I know the costumes are too thick for you guys, but I'm kind of jealous of your warm Halloweens. It snowed here last year, and they just aren't thick enough for us. When I was a kid, we often had to wear our coats over our costumes.

It is nice. I grew up in Nebraska and one year my mom put my puffy winter coat on UNDER my Princess Jasmine costume with the flesh colored material over the belly. I looked like an obese Jasmine. They also postponed Halloween one year due to a blizzard.
  • My LO's is in the works also. She will be going as long as it's not too cold or raining because my older two will be going. She will be a sock monkey ballerina, DS is Alfalfa from Little Rascals and I haven't figured out DD1 yet.
  • Went to children's orchard yesterday and found a ladybug costume for $7!! It is so cute and couldn't beat the price.

  • Dressing DS as a pumpkin just for the photo opp. Will either hang out at his Grammy's house or pass out candy at home.

I grew up without Halloween and do not feel deprived/scarred/whatever. I do remember being devastated the first year when my parents said no more trick-or-treating (I was 9 maybe?) but afterward it made little difference.

We will, however, participate with DS1 and DS2 for a couple of years, at least, as MH has fond memories and it is something he wants to do. But our idea of halloween mostly consists of staying home, having an excuse to eat candy, and dressing up the kids for pictures only.
