Hi ladies, had my retrieval this morning and I have so so much pain! My tummy feels bloated and I cant stand up straight and walk. Is this normal?? I was not expecting it to be this painful. Maybe I'm just being a wimp, we are travelling home now (4 hours) and every bump is agony.
Yes it is uncomfortable / boarder line painful. I found that the heating pad was SUPER helpful. Lay low for a day or so. Congrats on the 19 eggs! It is so exciting. I only had 2 retrieved, both fertilized, two implanted one survived. I am currently 19 weeks, and couldn't be happier.
Keep your head up...eye on the prize...the next few days and weeks are going to be mentally BRUTAL. Nobody gets it unless they went through it. If I heard "if it was meant to it be will be" one more time from my mother sister friends I was going to lose it.
Good luck, it is very hard not to over think every little feeling cramp etc. just stay strong and try not to google anything ( lol. Easier said than done)
@MrsFaFa2 Thank you and congrats on 19 weeks!! Gosh, this whole process is so draining and I really didn't expect this pain, hopefully it will pass soon. Guess the worst is over (shots and retrieval)
Wow, 19 eggs! Congrats! You are making me nervous about my retrieval on Wednesday. I also have a 4 hour drive after. Good luck!

March, 2015- Second FET 3 embies transferred- SUCCESS! EDD- 11/25/15
@crazygirl7882 I'm sorry to make you nervous, if I can give you some advice, take cushions with you, I didn't and have been folding up jackets and lay flat on the backseat. Luckily I managed to sleep for a bit, and feel somewhat better. And if your retrieval is early in the morning, try to take some recovery time before the long road home!
I thought I was fine after an hour, and just want to get home, but it was silly to rush into getting back into the car!
I had the nurse give me two Pain pills before I left the clinic and a fresh hot pack. It def helped!!

Congrats on 19 eggs. I second the heating pad. I used a thermacare patch, took tylenol for about 24 hours and rested. After that I dealt with bloating but no pain.

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF.
I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).
We are using open ID donor sperm.
IUIs #1-7=BFN.
IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).
I can't say I was shocked by retrieval pain - but I was definitely expecting searing agony and suffering, so maybe my negative outlook prepared me. I was lucky they gave me ativan for the procedure, so I slept for about 6 hours afterwards (even 3 hours on the drive home) which was probably the worst of it. I remember hearing/reading that the more eggs they take, the worse it is - so that could be your blessing + curse! But 19 eggs - holy sh*tballs - way to go! You deserve lots of rest, heating pad, etc. Also, if you're into natural health - anti-inflammatory teas like ginger or mulberry may reduce some of the pain as well and speed healing! Take care!

IUI#1 w/clomid & HCG in May 2013, BFN.
IUI#2 w/clomid & HCG on July 23rd. BFN.
IUI #3 in August cancelled last minute, due to lab error.
IVF#1- Started Gonal F stims October 13 2013 for IUI. Over-responded with too many follicles, so converted to IVF. Retrieval October 29th - got 5 eggs, 4 fertilized. Had 2 perfect little embryos transferred on day 3 (Nov. 1). The remaining 2 didn't survive to freeze. Got our BFN on November 13th 2013.
IVF#2 - Started stims August 21st. Triggered with Suprefact, started on dostinex due to risk of OHSS. Retrieval September 5th - got 27 eggs! 21 embryos on day 3. Embryos deteriorated quickly. ESet 5day blast on Sept 10. No embryos high enough quality to freeze. BFN came Sept. 22.
Reserved a semi-known proven donor in August .
Waiting for consult/screening and protocols with estimated fresh cycle timing in October
Wow! That's great!!! I've heard the pain is worse with a higher retrieval. I had a smaller retrieval, so my pain wasn't so bad. I have also heard pain gets worse with each retrieval. Not sure the truth to these statements though. Either way, hope your feeling better soon!
Congrats on 19. I can't comment on the pain though, I didn't feel much aside from significant bloat.

IVF prep September 2013 cancelled due to Ovarian Cyst IVF #1 October 2013 Antagonistic Protocol with ICSI ER 10/31/13 (18R 16M 11F- 6 blasts to freeze) ET delayed due to OHSS FET scheduled for July 8. Delayed due to a crazy high TSH (it had been under control for YEARS!) FET #1 8/5/14 sET BFN
I'm in the same boat as a few other ladies, in that I didn't have sedation, so it definitely hurt alot more than I thought it would! It was about what I expected afterwards, considering the pain during, but it was definitely super uncomfortable and painful at times. Hopefully it only takes a day or two for you to feel back to "normal" as well
Thanks guys, feeling very bloated today, hoping that tomorrow will be much better because I'm back at work with a busy schedule!
I'm supposed to get my fertility report tomorrow as well, so kind of nervous. Can you ladies shed some light as to what criteria would determine a 3dt or 5dt?
3DT vs 5DT will depend on the number of fertilized embryos and their quality. It's kind of a guess when they decide, as you never really *know* what will happen between day 3 and day 5 (and my clinic doesn't check them on day 4, so that's nerve wracking for me!) but they can get a good idea of how many will make it to blast by day 2-3, by how they're dividing. They generally assume that 1/3 fertilized eggs (on day 2-3) will make it to blast, so if you have a good number that are dividing well, then will push for a 5 day transfer. We had 18 retrieved (just one less than you) and 14 mature, and 13 dividing well on day 3, so we did a eSET of an early blast on day 5. If they were looking poorly on day 2, we would done a 3DT (of 2 probably) and watched the rest.
@HCAMP123 I too had my retrieval yesterday. Lots of pain. I was surprised it would be so painful. I had 24 eggs retrieved and had heard sometimes recovery deals with how many eggs they get. It is rough though. But I figured the roughest physical piece of this process is done. Heating pad is doing wonders for me, as well as tylenol. I am on other meds for OHSS because I am at risk which is helping with some of the bloat , but it is a bit much - up 5inches of normal - and just uncomfy. GL with your recovery and (hopeful) ET. Mine is scheduled for Saturday!!
@HCAMP123 . I know! fx for sure. They called me today and I have 7 fertilized but 19 were injected (we had to do ICSI). They said we may get more embryos because some may be late bloomers lol. They scheduled a 5dt because we are doing assisted hatching as well, so I think that may be why? Let me know what they tell you! With so many eggs they seemed excited for me, so may be same for you. :-) GL!!
