I have a friend that has this! She just found out at her last a/s and was told they might need to stable it together just in case it starts to opens but nothing to worry about yet.
If a doctor wanted to "stable" my cervix, I'd consider finding a new doc?!
Progesterone suppositories are supposed to work really well for shortened cervix. I'm on them because I had a cone biopsy and my doc is extremely proactive, which I love. I'll be on them until 35 weeks. My cervix has stayed stable and I'm not really sure it wouldn't have without the supplements, but they don't hurt so I am okay with the extra support.
Is your's shortening?

Lost baby A. Praying that baby B stays healthy. Baby B hb 175 at 11 weeks
I've been on them since our IVF cycle. For me, it's precautionary. My cervix showed signs of shortening, but it went from 50mm to 40mm, so nothing to really worry about. But, the changing is worrisome. It's up to 45mm now (4.5cm) so I'm good. I'll be 24 weeks on Wednesday.
Usually if it gets below 2.5cm, which it sounds like yours has done, they'll also recommend bedrest. Did they do this? If not, I'd push for it or at least ask about it.

I forget exactly what mine was, but it was just long enough to qualify to not have to do anything special (I had it checked at 18 weeks due to a leep I had 10 years ago). I have an extra ultrasound at 28 weeks to check placenta position and my understanding is that they'll also check the cervix again. Eeeeek - suppositories?! I hope those aren't in my future!
I have a short cervix and did in my first pregnancy as well. I've been on the suppositories and for me personally they didn't work so with my second child and this one I'm on the shots. If your at 4.5 and not funneling your not in a bad place the suppositories are probably preventative in nature since you started to shorten prior to 27 or 28 weeks when it's natural to start getting shorter.
With DS, yes went into labor at 35w an 6days so not terribly early which I attribute to the fact that I was put on "limited activity" which I took at bed rest, otherwise don't think I would have made it that long.
No, my cervix was checked biweekly and I had changes with each visit. With my second child on the shots I had no changes at all and delivered at term. In this pregnancy I had .5 of a change and have since been stable (on the shots). So in my case the suppositories made no difference in aiding any further changes nor preventing the ptl.
Every case is different it depends on the dynamics of your cervix on whether it's gonna help it's a lower dose then the shots that could also be the reasoning it didn't work for me .... honestly think of it like a yeast infection (gross I know but only comparison I can think of) for some woman monistat works for others then need oral meds. the concentration of meds are different in the delivery systems so what works in one case may not in another. But just like a oral med, the shots have better "success rates" which in all cases progesterone in use to help a short cervix and ptl is NEW like prior to 2010 (which was the year of my first issue with it) most places never treated it cuz they didn't know how so there are a lot of ongoing studies still determining the "best" course of action in most cases.
But if your on the suppositories then I'm sure your Dr deems it the best med for you an your situation.
Yikes I can't recall that was 2 babies ago sorry :-( And the questions don't bother me at it was totally new to me then so I know the feeling of being like what the heck is going on, and since it was so new to being treated I had no choice but to study up to make sure I was gonna get the best care possible ( at first they didn't want to treat me at all since that was the "norm" then to just "watch" the cervix *smh* which I wasn't gonna stand for that).
They started treatment at 2.5... You cervix can get as short as .5 but as long as it is still closed and no active funneling it still has the potential to "stabilize" and stop shortening and you can go to term or overdue.. Mine just never did in that pregnancy.
I'm 27 weeks and at 18 weeks they found my cervix was short at about 2.4. At about 22 weeks it shortened to 1cm and started progesterone suppositories ( not bad at all, they actually make me sleep at night) and have been on strict bed rest. There has been no change and the high risk doctor doesn't want to measure anymore. She believes if I keep doing what do I'll delivery at term.
At 20 weeks my cervix measured at 1.9 cm with funneling. I had a cerclage put in and ordered to strict bed rest. I'm now almost 25 weeks and my cervix has been holding steady at 2.9 cm. I'm also pregnant with twins via IVF and been on progesterone since the beginning of my pregnancy. I believe the cerclage and bed rest works wonders.
I have a short cervix. At 17 weeks I had a cerclage done. I'm also on progesterone pills that I use every night before bed. Recently after having a ultrasound done to check my cervix my Dr reported that my cervix had shortened and put me on bed rest. I'm waiting for next appointment with my specialist to see if anything has changed and if I will continue bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant.

@jamiehdeltort I have the same problem but I put myself on bed rest since my doctor said there's no studies that show that bed rest can help with I think it's bulls**t I think bed rest has helped me a lot from keeping pressure off my pelvic area
@harrow160 bed rest does work wonders pregnancy with twins it's very different a lot more pressure but keep up the bed rest and everything is going to be good
Im on progesterone shots right now with my baby girl. I didnt have to have them my first pregnancy but this time around i did because my cervix is shortening and because i had my first baby preterm and they dont want that happening this time around.
