I suffered from postpartum depression with my first child for the first year..any of you moms get it the second time around? I'm terrified of getting it again and would try just about anything..which brings me to my next question..has anyone heard of/ tried a placenta smoothie right after birth? It supposedly helps with ppd.
I'm in the same boat. I am going to be talking to my midwife about placenta encapsulation. I've heard a lot of positives and am hoping it will work for me.
I had PPA and am hoping I won't get it again, but guessing there's a large chance I will. Supposedly if you've had PPD/PPA before there's a very large chance it will occur again. I am going to make an appt. w/my doctor for 2 weeks after my due date just to check-in. I've heard about placenta encapsulation but doubt it's strong enough to ward off PPD/PPA.

I encapsulated my placenta with DD & didn't have PPD. But it's obviously possible that I wouldn't have had it anyways. I have also heard that putting some in a smoothie the day (or day after) you give birth gives you the most benefits. As long as you are open to that, I would definitely try it since you know you're probably high risk to get PPD again!
I had it bad with my DS so I went about a different approach with my DD. Not only did I do a waterbirth at a birthing center, which really helped me have a better bonding experience, but I took omegas everyday after and that seemed to help tremendously.
