Potty

The HDBD post with the potty reminded me of something I've been wanting to talk about.  In our state daycare can start with potty training at 18mo if they feel the child is ready.  That is less than a month for us, holy cow.  Has anyone's LO shown any interest in the potty (besides putting toys in it)?  Has anyone started actively potty training?  Fin likes to flush the toilet, thats about the extent of the interest so far.

Re: Potty

  • Dont flame me for not knowing: do boys learn to go sitting or standing at the practice potty?  I seriously was thinking this would be another couple of years so I havent thought about it at all.

  • I wanted to start potty training by two! She sits on her potty when I get her bath ready and she always is so interested when I go. I'm not doing it now because I don't want any change for her with new baby coming in 3 weeks

  • It was my pic on HDBD. We bought a potty just to get Cam used to it. He sits on it a few times a day but has yet to go potty in it.

  • I am not going to push it I wait for my kids to show signs of being ready.   Cavin is getting close as he is starting to come to me as soon as he poops in his diaper to be changed.
Now if he is heading off to college and still not potty trained then we might have an issue.. LOL

  • Don't they have to walk first to get on the potty?!?! Lol. Though if she takes any longer she may be potty trained before she walks!

We started sitting with my son. He was too short to stand and needed a stool. A little boy standing on a stool who doesn't know how to aim is a disaster.... He is very stubborn and soon decided he was a big boy like dad and would stand- thank goodness he got taller.

Sitting for sure! Just make sure that pen.is is pointed into the potty or you'll have pee everywhere! My son started standing just recently. He uses a stool. He just decided one day he wanted to do that. It was very messy teaching him to aim for several weeks, but he's got it now.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

The boys I watch learne to sit on the potty facing backwards. Pee pee goes in the toilet and it helps their balance too bc their legs are spread far apart so they can't really fall in.
I remember once when I was young, probably like 7 or 8, my sister dared me to sit on the toilet backwards and pee! Haha

Maybe I should've saved this for the FFFC.
