My baby is 2 weeks old..I have found that sleeping while he sleeps affords me my rest. You have to put your mind to it and actually sit/lay down and not clean this or that.
I have to laugh. I would be well rested if my baby only woke up every 3 hours. I'm lucky if I get two, 3hr stretches in 24 hrs and outside of that, he's either constantly awake or up every hour give or take. I guess my solution is just to wait until he's older to get more sleep!

My LO does 2-3 stretches all day and night. I usually take the afternoon nap with her (usually a 3 hr stretch for her) and try to be in bed by 9 myself. I have a really easy going good baby *knock on wood* so far and I'm not near as exhausted as I thought I'd be.
I'm really lucky that my H has take the month off, and he's a night owl. So he takes the night shift so I can usually get a 4-6 hour stretch of sleep in. In the nights I only get 4 hours I grab a nap during the day. He goes back to work next week and I go back the 15th so non idea how will we handle that!!

Our LO is 2 weeks old and yesterday was DH's first day back at work. While I'm Still on maternity leave I told him I would take all of the night feedings (FF only, 3 hours apart). LO seems to have awake time after his 6am bottle but sleeps after his 9am bottle so I haven taken a nap during that time both days and it's really helped!

This doesn't work if you have older children. Enjoy it now because with the next one you won't have this luxury.
This is my house as well. Dh goes back to work tomorrow so it's going to be scary how much sleep I won't get. I wish I could go back to the days of sleeping when baby sleeps.
I feel like we're doing pretty well. It's just me since my DH works away M-F. My DD started back to school so I have to be up at 6 to get her ready. I had to plan my sleep routine around that factor. Baby is sleeping 3-4 hours a clip at night so I put him to bed around 10-10:30 and then I usually go to bed myself a little after that. He gets up around 2 to eat and mostly goes right back to sleep after fed and changed. Then we get up around 6 for the day. I can live with this arrangement. I hope he's this agreeable when I go back to work because that terrifies me. I am so scared I won't be able to do it all while working.
So far DS2 is a much easier baby than DS1 (knock on wood), so I've been able to get DS1 down for a nap and then nap while the baby naps too. On the weekends I take full advantage of DH being home, and sleep in until the baby gets up, DH gets up with our oldest.
So far, I just sleep when I'm tired. Or at least, I try to sleep when I'm tired. Assuming my big, round pregnancy belly will allow me.
I still have an inside baby...soooooo, yeahhhh...I'm useless on this topic.

When my husband was home for 2 weeks after baby was born I would nap during the day. After that I would take a quick nap when he got off work (hoping the baby didn't need to nurse then!).
I hate taking naps, and now I just sleep when I can at night and DH lets me sleep in on the weekends. I nurse in the morning, then leave the baby with him, and go back to sleep until the next nursing session.
I have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old and I'm a SAHM...so no sleeping when the baby sleeps this time around! I actually feel pretty good. Lately baby has been only waking up 2x a night and goes back to sleep pretty easily. I did have some rough nights in the beginning though, but DH helped out then.
LO is only a week old, but I sleep when she does at night. Same goes for during the day and I need a nap...but this is our first, so I know this is a luxury not everyone has. I have a Los been fortunate that she feeds closer together during the day and sleeps a little longer at night...I hope I didn't jinx myself by saying that!

Hard to call it a "schedule" at this point. Any time after 10 pm, I sleep when LO sleeps, then stay awake any time after a 5 am feeding. If I've had less than 6 hours sleep total, I try for a couple one hour naps during the day.
I try to get both LOs to nap at the same time and then I take a nap too. DD goes 4-6 hours between feedings at night, so I'm fortunate there. On the weekends, DH gets up with DS and I sleep in as long as DD lets me.

DS is 3 weeks today. He consistently goes down at 11 and wakes to feed at 4am and 8am. While I realize this is pretty good, my body wasn't doing well with interrupted sleep. By week 3, however, my sleep cycle has adjusted and now I'm used to it.
Once DH comes home from work we try to eat dinner together and then he watches LO while I try to get some rest for 4-5 hours. I try to pump enough milk so he can handle a feeding for me. Then I get up for the night and he gets some sleep. He's also only sleeping about 4-5 hours a night. Team work!
I pump one bottle for my DH to give her during one of the night feedings, so it leaves me only having to get up once during the night!
Also we just started feeding on demand in the past couple of days and it is much better than trying to wake her up to feed (was told not to let baby sleep more than 3 hours without eating) but I've come to realize that she will indeed tell me when she is hungry. So much better than setting my alarm and making her cry because I'm trying to wake her up
I always wake to feed during the day, I don't let more than 2-3 hours pass. That way he fills his belly during the day and sleeps longer stretches at night! He slept 5 hours straight at 4 days old, and now at 5 days old he only woke up once last night!

If this turns out to be consistent I'm very jealous over here! My "night" is from 2 am-7am and he still wakes up at 4am to feed. Does that count as waking up once a night :P ? Oh, and he is 4 weeks 2 days. During the day he sleeps from 2.30 to 8 but wakes up once or twice to feed, so I think I will be tired for a while! At least he is gaining tons...
I'm blessed. Baby only wakes 1 time per night after an 11pm feeding. She's been doing this since birth. Eta: I'm EBF too
It's funny a mom was telling me a couple weeks ago how each of her babies slept better than the one before, her third STTN almost immediately. Has this been the case for you?
Yep. I think it's bc with two prior kids, they hear all the noises during the day and quiet at night. Once out, it continues. Just my opinion
LO is 4 days old and I cannot bring myself to sleep while he's sleeping unless someone is with him. H is going back to work and classes next week so I'm kind of at a loss. How did you guys manage? I can't be the only one afraid to leave him alone

Baby sleep literally inches from me in his rock and play currently. I can reach him from bed and hear every mumble and grumble.

At night he sleeps right next to me in his co sleeper so I can also reach and hear him... During the day he's either in the PNP in the living room with me or in his crib or co sleeper with a monitor
So far...as long as someone is watching her or she is in the same room as me -I can sleep. I am a light sleeper though and wake easily when she makes a noise.
Baby sleeps in bassinet in the room with us. I feed her at 9pm and sleep until 3:00am (about 5 hours) when I wake to pump. Then I sleep until she wakes in the morning, usually about 6:00 am (so, another 2.5 hours for a total 7.5 hours).
DH sleeps from 10 pm - 1:00 am (3 hours) when he feeds her, then from 1:30 am - 5:00 am (3.5 hours) when he feeds her again. After that he sleeps in until about 7:00 (1.5-hours for a total of 8 hours or so).
We've been lucky in that little bit only wakes to eat and goes back down. It's been our only lucky break.

Wow, can we switch lives for a while?
