Brother serger. Help with corners.

I need help, ladies. I'm making wipes and I can't get the corners right. Maybe I'm being too picky, but they are puckering and bugging me. These are for a friend, and the next batch is for me. It's not super important, but I would like to do them properly.

I looked at videos online, and they talk about releasing the fabric from the foot at the corner to move it back a bit, so you don't have the quarter inch of fabric that isn't serged. I can't figure out how to release it with my machine. It releases the part that hasn't been through the needles, but not the stuff that has.

Halp!!

I made mine with slightly rounded corners. As you anticipate the turn at the corner, you have to bunch up the fabric a little in front of the presser foot. As it feeds in it will straighten out & give you normal stitches. I wish I could find the tutorial online that helped me. :-(

Your tension is off. I can post some pics tomorrow for a sharp corner.

Does it need to be tighter?

I kept plugging along and they are looking better, but not perfect.

I found that if I stopped right after the edge, with the needles up, turned the fabric, pulled it towards me a little and then started going, it looked better.

I think my tension is a bit loose on these ones as well, but they turned out better.

I might be wrong but for square corners you have to go all the way out then start the next side.

I liked curved bc it's easier and you just round as you get to a corner.

I am far far from an expect. Probably even barely knowledgeable when it comes to surgers.

I was too lazy to cut rounded corners. ;)

You just draw the roundedness you want -- the machine cuts it for you!

Ok I just did this quick and my pictures are shitty quality because my iPad sucks, but let me see if it makes it clear (if not I can do it again with my phone, I'm just lazy lol.)....

Serge to the end of your fabric, hand turn your lever for two more stiches at the end. image

Pull fabric from behind to unhook the fabric and two extra loops from the stitch arm. image

Bring the fabric back down and start serging from the next corner. image

My corners look kind of funny because I've got wooly nylon in my machine right now, but regular poly or cotton thread will sit nicely on a nice sharp corner.

That's super helpful, ITK! I was trying to pull it out the side, I think.

Well, shoot. I didn't do anything fancy with my corners. I just ran a bunch of wipes through on one side, then clipped the chain apart and started down another side. So far they're holding up well.

Yes this! That's what I meant.
