    That's way too much work for me when I have to go to the bathroom, so we just installed the door knob things so she can't get in, and leave the door closed.

    We had them with DS1 but my MIL broke it off even though we showed her how to open it. :/

    Thanks everyone. I think I may try using the lock straps @dillngr9‌ suggested for the trash can and see how that goes. Our house is already small so I would feel bad closing him off even more.
