DH might miss the birth

So I've known this since the day I got a BFP but it's just now starting to feel real.

DH is in a very intense 15-month Executive MBA program. Instead of meeting on campus (at Duke), his in-person classes meet in different cities around the world. The global learning aspect was the whole appeal of this particular program and he loves it.

His next in-person session is in Asia, from Oct 2 to 18, and my due date is on Oct 5. The program is so intense that if he misses more than a half day of any trip, he has to drop out- NO exceptions. This means there's a very good chance he won't be here for the birth.

We've talked through the options and I feel it's very important for him to finish his degree. We've invested an ungodly amount of money and time in it already, and it's for the long-term benefit of our family that he finishes. I'm even more adamant about it than he is!

I live very close to family (now that we've moved) so I will be very well taken care of, as will DS. 

No real point to this, just to get it out in the open and also say that I'm going to be a basket case of self-pity if I don't deliver before he goes, so y'all will probably have to hear about it Thanks in advance for your support in the coming few weeks as I mentally prepare for the "worst case" and pray for the best.

Why can't you have them induce you before he leaves? DH missed LO birth and my family was there it was super special.

Hoping lo comes just a bit early!!! That would be so hard, but I agree, he needs to keep trucking along!

I hope your LO comes a few days early, but if not, I'm sure you're in great hands! Hopefully you two can FaceTime or something like that after the birth so he can see you both

It does sound like an amazing program, but totally stinks. I agree with everyone else, if he misses it you are 100% good to complain on here ,but I hope LO comes a few days early!

Would your Dr induce you? Or would you not want that? That really would be hard but at least you're surrounded by family!

Oh my goodness, that would be stressful, so vent away! I can empathize a little bit. MH was in a program similar to that (though not as intense) where he traveled to Europe and Asia, both for 3 weeks. I never ended up getting pregnant during that time to which it would conflict, but it was definitely something we worried about. 

If it was me, I'd ask to be induced. Even with family. But that's because my family is a little crazy

I forgot to mention that I can't be induced because it's a VBAC- my OB is willing to strip my membranes, but that's it. I definitely don't want a RCS if I can help it- hence not scheduling a c-section. 

jesselayne8- we live in Texas actually- the program is global, so you don't have to live in NC or even be on the Duke campus except for orientation and graduation. The classes meet all over the world in really cool cities- it's an awesome program and I'm just a little bit jealous

Gotcha! I am from NC (living in KY) and miss it so much! Good luck with your VBAC!!

FX that it all works out ok and he will be there for LOs birth. What a sticky situation.

I'm sorry you are stuck in the situation - I can see how "knowing" would be one thing, but as the calendar pages turn REALLY knowing would change the emotions. I hope that LO comes a little early, and if LO decides not to play nice, that the technology of 2014 lets DH support you and enjoy your guys special moment in as good a way as possible!

I'm so sorry!  MH had a business trip scheduled the week before E was due, and would have missed her birth if he had gone.  Thankfully the trip got postponed until after her birth due to work reasons.  But I know how you feel. 
I'm sorry you're in this situation.  What a cool program for YH, and what a great opportunity for him.  FX big time that LO cooperates and comes in time for YH to be there.

That stinks. Im having a repeat c section as im to worried about the risks of not having another and both of my labors before were terrible with lots of issues, But I know its important to some people to do a VBAC. I hope baby comes a bit early on their own. maybe with the doctor striping you membranes and you doing a lot of walking and stuff it will happen

Timing can be so frustrating! I hope your LO comes a little early so that he can be there, but it is good to know you will have support regardless.  >:D<

Thanks for all of your encouragement, ladies. I'm praying for an early arrival as well.

DS came three days early, so his brother needs to beat him by a couple of days and we'll be good!
