6 weeks - Sac but no baby on 1st us

Yesterday I went in for my first ultrasound. Based on my LMP I am 6 weeks and 5 days. When they did the ultrasound all they could see was a sac and no baby or fetal pole. The sac was measuring at 4 weeks 5 days. I was monitoring my cervical mucus and I am pretty sure that I ovulated around cycle day 17 which is also the last day that I believe we had sex. I know that it is possible for me to have actually ovulated later but what has me concerned is that I am pretty sure that was the last time we had sex.

I did take a pregnancy test on day 28th and 29th and they were negative but day 30th was the first day I got a positive test (very faint). I had my hcg levels taken last week and they did increase from 259 to 707 in 48 hours. My progestrone was also good (12.1).

My doctor seemed concerned because based on when we think I conceived I should be atleast 6 weeks. However, she said that we really cant tell right now either way and have to wait and do another u/s next wednesday.

I am so worried since I have a history of miscarriages. I had one in 2010 prior to the birth of my daughter and the other this past May but both of them were earlier on.

Has anyone else had something like this happen?

I am so sorry you are going through this... CM doesn't tell you that you are ovulating then just that you are trying to so a later ovulation is very possible. I wish I had something profound to tell you but all you can do is wait and see.

Well even if you had sex then my re said determined spermies can live 3-5 days no problems. If you tack that on you would be in the 5 week area. To early to see anything but sac, plus you could of implanted late. My re said early scans can be off by 7 days. I ask because mine was off couple days! Good luck!

Fx that you get good results next week. I agree that you could be off on your LMP and it may be too soon to see anything on an u/s.

Depending on the doc's U/S machine, some are very old and dated and can't see very much detail (my first doc was like this and he missed an entire baby- I was having twins and he only saw one) so it's def possible that it's just too soon/too tiny.

Update!! I am so excited! God answered my prayers!!!

After a very long week and a lot of stress and tears - I went in today for a second ultrasound and they were able to see the fetal pole and the little heart! They said that I am still very early (now 5 weeks and 5 days) so we couldn't hear the heartbeat but I did see that little thing flutter on the screen!!!! I go back next week to have another ultrasound done just to confirm everything but right now I am over the mood with happiness! I honestly was convinced that I had lost the baby.
