Just wondering who is having their baby shower before the baby is born (to maximize gifts) vs after (to show the baby off).
I haven't decided yet, but could argue it either way....
We're doing one before with mostly friends, one after for family. Friends would rather hang out at an open bar event and family would rather take a million pictures of the actual baby. It just works that way.
First off, to answer your question, I'm having mine prior to baby. I think, generally, showers after birth are considered "sip and sees" and don't include gifts. (At least that's my impression, I've never been to one.)
Secondly, I really hope no one is planning their shower at any point to "maximize gifts". A shower itself is a gift and is supposed to welcome the MTB to motherhood, not for people to buy you ALL THE STUFFS!

STM here but showers with DS were before as that is traditionally what my family/friends do. MIL offered to throw another shower with this baby but I declined but agreed to a sip and see after baby is born. I am sure some people will bring gifts because my family tends to be very generous with gifts, but I definitely don't expect anything
No, I was not f-ing kidding. Completely serious.
My husband and I try to live with less, so if people are going to buy us gifts (which we know they will) I would rather they get us stuff we need (like a car seat etc) as opposed to a lot of extras.
I wasn't trying to be rude, or ungrateful, or presumptive. Please don't swear at me, I'm pregnant.
1. Showers are typically BEFORE the event to shower the mother to be, bride to be, etc. If you want to have a party AFTER the baby is born, it's a sip and see and people would be less likely to bring gifts.
2. Fuck, shit, damn, bitch, ass.
3. Sorry, had to get that out.
4. "To maximize gifts" sounds incredibly gift grubby.
I'm totally having mine before... After all I'm hosting it and can do it whenever I want. I'm even printing out a copy of my registry for each guest and including it with my invites so that way there are no excuses of people not knowing what big ticket items I want... (maybe I'll even highlight a few items in specific for each person to buy... & that way I make sure they buy my baby everything he will need.) How dare they expect to show up and just celebrate my pregnancy/baby. And if they don't bring a pack or diapers and write their message to baby in a children's book vs. a card... We just won't be friends anymore.
Don't mind the Peeshes above ... They're just jealous their friends won't be buying them all the gifts!
✓ Makes baby shower post using the words "maximize gifts"
✓ Follows up with "Don't swear at me, I'm pregnant!"
✓ Has a fairly limited post history
✓ Name is generic tailored to N14 board
✓ N14 was criticized recently for being too tame (not flaming the expired juice drinker)
I'm saying ...
But nice try :-)
To the bolded above about the orange juice... I don't know if someone on this board mentioned that poster should have gotten flamed or if it was another board (either way I missed it). I was telling my husband the other night how annoyed I was that someone would freak out about it, and the regs on the board were being so nice to her, so this made me laugh.

@dmo1371 - I believe we got a call out on Jul 14's trolling thread for the juice drinking post. Although I figure they're all busy with babies to make a troll account so maybe someone else?

I totally agree. I always check it when I'm reading their birth stories. Also, I missed the juice thread. Boo. I'm guessing it was recent?

---- Yeah I think so. I vaguely remember reading it. It was a pretty boring thread I think?
Did you guys know that if you read a swear when you're pregnant you baby can read it too? And because you read the swear that is going to be the first thing your baby can read? Obviously this is a fact of life. So please, no more swearing. I'm pregnant.
Does this also mean I should stop reading 50 Shades of Gray unless I want my baby to come out into S&M?
@Emnob28 - just 2 days ago my Aunt commented on a post I had on FB. I don't even remember the content but I ended with "WTF". She went on this rant about my baby's first words will be what the fuck...are you kidding me! My response, although not what I really wanted to say, was I typed WTF therefore my unborn child was not exposed unless he reads my thoughts. Some people are so silly! )

I figure vibrators are no different than vibrating bouncy seats...Right?

So did I. But I'm super bad for skimming over and not reading everything!
