Trying to Get Pregnant

Advice wanted from the experienced

I've been trying to get pregnant for 13 months now and I'm trying to decide the next best step. One thing I've learned is that different doctors have different opinions and ultimately the decision is yours. I really value the input of those who have been in a similar boat. I did clomid for 5 mos because I wasn't ovulating on my own (3, 50 and 2, 100) before switching doctors. During those 5 mos I had 3 mos of positive ovulation predictor tests, but never got pregnant. Then I switched doctors. My new doctor said I had PCOS and he wanted to test my husband and that he wanted to put me back on clomid after a few mos break because my first doctor didn't really monitor me closely to see if clomid worked for me. My husband's test came back abnormal for quality of the sperm, but when he went to a specialist they said the quanity of his sperm was so high that the low quality of some of the sperm shouldn't impact our chances of getting pregnant. After a short break I went back on clomid for 50 for 2 mos and my doctor did some blood work, which indicated it was working (however 1 of the mos we couldn't try due to travel). Then I started getting tired of the whole process so I went to see a specialist who said since I can't ovulate on my own and because of the 1 month I couldn't try, we'd only really had 6 chances to try to get pregnant, which wasn't that much. At this point I was frustrated because we had been wanting to get pregnant for almost a year. He suggested I try one more month with Letrozol 5 mg (he thought this had less side effects than clomid) and then if that didn't work, try the fertility med with IUI. Letrozol didn't work at all and I got my period mid cycle, but then ovulated shortly after my period with no med (weird) so I did iui at this time. Iui didn't work and I went back to clomid 100 mg (because I didn't like Letrozol) with iui. The clomid produced 1 egg and I used ovidrel and then did an iui, but it didn't work and I got my period the day after the iui. In summary, I did 8 mos of clomid, 1 of which I couldn't try, so really only 7 mos and 1 mo with Letrozol. 2 of the times I did iui. Clomid seemed to work inconsistently. When do I push for a next step and what should that next step be? Iui with injectables? Ivf? I'm going to be 30 in a couple weeks and my age plus the amount of time we've been trying doesn't seem to have the doctors overly concerned, but I'm definitly frustrated at this point and don't want to waste time. Any input is appreciated :)

@NariaDreaming‌ has a lot of experience with Clomid, if my memory serves me correctly. (I'm mobile so I can't check right now)

How soon after you started trying did they put you on clomid?  You've done five rounds and are only 13 months into trying.  Are you over 35?

    I believe she says she's only 29.

    OP, see an RE.

    TB is dead.

Thank you so much for your help!!

Yes, the specialist I've been seeing for the past 2 months is an RE and with the IUIs they have been doing ultrasounds to detect ovulation.

I had a HSG completed and it was normal.

The reason I started clomid was because when I went off the birth control I didn't get a period for 6 months so they put me on provera and clomid.

I'm sorry you're having trouble.  I just have to say that I would run from any doctor willing to do that many rounds of clomid.  They're putting your fertility at risk.
