I had my 18 week ultrasound yesterday and everything looked great -except a cyst on the brain.
The doctor went on and on about how this is normal and no cause for worry. But I had another ultrasound scheduled with a specialist. If there was no cause for worry - why are we worrying??
Anyone else have anything like this? I just wish I didn't know.
I just had my 20 week anatomy scan and received the same news. We also can't stop worrying after going from total excitement finding out we are having a boy to total anxiety and fear. We're still waiting on the specialist to make an appointment as well so that isn't helping the waiting/worrying game. But we are not alone and this is very common and could be no big deal. Just keep telling your baby you love him/her, go buy a teddy bear and take care of yourselves. You'll be in my prayers and I hope we can both move on from this soon.
My daughter was born with a cyst on her brain. Its sounds scary ,but she is almost 5 the cyst went away on its own. She is a healthy energetic little girl. Hope this helps.
I have no experience or advice to give, but my thoughts and prayers are with OP and @jcuckler. I hope these turn out to be minor concerns and that you get positive news at your next scans.
These are incredibly common. Most often they go away on their own. In fact, during my first pregnancy, I asked not to be told if there was anything like this (or a bright spot on the heart or intestines) because so often they mean ABSOLUTELY nothing. It seems like a bit of overkill to send you to a specialist for an u/s at this point but doctors like to cover all their bases. It's what they do. Really, though, as much as possible don't dwell. Your doctor was telling you the truth. ((Hugs))
My nephew had cysts in his brain and kidneys at the 20 week ultrasound. They did another u/s 4 weeks later and everything was fine! He is a happy healthy little boy who just turned 1. Try not to worry!!
I know how hard it is not to worry, we were told our little girl has a bright spot on her heart, which before I did any research sounded like this horrible awful thing. They referred us for a level II with a pediatric cardiologist (which now seems like overkill, understanding what we're looking at) but the nurse insisted that they aren't worried and we shouldn't either. I know they are just doing their due diligence, as they are with you. I would listen to the other ladies on this board who have been through this, take some deep breaths and have faith that your little boy is going to be just fine
My best friend had the same news at 20 weeks. She was told her son had several brain cysts, but not to worry, etc. they resolved on their own, and he is a happy, healthy four year old now.
MH has a cyst in his brain that they found while looking for something else. Totally benign, won't grow, doesn't effect him in any way(and he's ridiculously smart). They'd have never known it was there if it wasn't for a cat scan for another issue. Even if it doesn't go away like it has for some previous posters, it might not effect your LO at all. Hang in there mama, hopefully your next appt will be all good news!
If you are talking about a choroid plexus cyst, then yes it is usally nothing to worry about. My DD had one that resolved. It can usually indicate a problem when coupled with other soft markers. One cyst with no other soft markers is usually just resolves. I hope that this is the case and everything is ok with baby.

This was the case with my DD as well. Follow up scan showed it resolved before she was born. We also didn't have any other soft markers to indicate anything else might be wrong. Hang in there!
