Hypertension without preeclampsia?

So, today I went to doctor because today I noticed less movement and had a high blood pressure at home. I was hypertensive before pregnancy. They sent me to do a non-stress test and after trying to wake up the baby, I still felt only a couple movements (in an hour). Then, I was told I had protein in my urine and sent to L & D for more monitoring. In the span of ten minutes, I was told I couldn't have any water because if my labs came back bad, "I would be having her today via CS." After an hour, I luckily had favorable results and was told that the trace protein amount must be due to something else. My question is this: anyone else have high BP with trace amounts and offered an explanation about why this could be happening? Just curious.

Yep.  I'm going through this right now.  At my doctor's appointment on Friday, I had high blood pressure, so they sent me to the hospital to be monitored and have lab work done.  I had no protein in my urine (hoping it stays that way) and my blood pressure dropped down.  I had another appointment yesterday, and my blood pressure was up again (both times it was 140/90).  They didn't send me back to the hospital, but they want me to continue monitoring it at home.

In my case, since I didn't have HBP before pregnancy, they called it gestational hypertension.  I'm just hoping that it stays low enough that I don't have to be induced.  I have to go back twice a week to have my blood pressure checked, but I'm checking it at home too (it has stayed down in the 'pre-hypertension' range so far at home).

    Sending positive thoughts your way!

ETA: Sorry - I don't have trace amounts of protein.  I read your post too quickly.  I know that some people do have a tiny bit of protein and they don't have to be induced.  I'm not sure where the line is or what causes it.

Have gestational hypertension but have never had any protein in my urine. Was told if I do, I will be induced! Sorry can't be of much help because I'm not sure what would cause the trace amounts of protein, but good luck and keep us updated!

I had gestational hypertension (well, in office only, I was fine at home, so I think it was just white coat personally) last pregnancy, and had my urine checked like it was cool I third tri. I remember being told by a nurse after one particular 24 hour catch that everyone has trace amounts of protein in their urine, and because mine came back with absolutely none they made me do it over again because they claimed the lab must have screwed something up.

Not exactly what you were asking, and I'm not in the medical field so I have no idea how legit that statement is, but I thought it might be relevant to mention at least...

I did both previous pregnancies.  I now realize that I had very poor care with my first pregnancy and even though I had crazy uncontrolled BP and protein in my urine, nothing was ever done about it.  The OB I had with my second said she suspected that I had pre-e with my first and it was just undiagnosed.  Then with my second, I had crazy high bp, but never more than trace proteins.  They never ordered any labwork though-- I didn't even know until this pregnancy that you could detect pre-e through blood work! I ended up induced at 40+4 because of my BP.

I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension around 28 weeks... I had multie high readings over 2 weeks, then it just went away. My BP at the MW last week was down to 104/70

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm just going to rest and monitor it. I should just be glad there were only trace amounts in the urine and that they sent me home! Love you guys. Seriously, some days my only comfort if I'm having a bad day is to be involved as much as I can here:)-

Yes, I was diagnosed with PIH/gestational hypertension at 34+4. At the time, I had no trace of protein in my urine, and got put on bed rest and a low dose of labetalol. I went for a BPP and NST at 35 weeks, and LO was fine. I then had to do weekly 24 hour urine collections, blood work and NSTs at 36 and 37 weeks. More protein for those two collections, but not enough for a pre-e diagnosis. Had to go back to L&D for monitoring this week after LO didn't cooperate during the NST. I'm how scheduled for induction on. August 1 (38+4) and doing NSTs twice a week until then. I don't believe there is any explanation as to what causes PIH.

I have also been diagnosed with gestational hypertension. Had the labs drawn 3 times, never had to do 24 hour urine, and went to the hospital once for monitoring. On Monday they had me stop working and I have a BP appt tomorrow. I'm 35 weeks today and hoping I go at 37 or 39 weeks, even though I've heard horror stories about early induction. I'm also measuring big and AMA.

My BP last week was 140/90 which I was told is "borderline." I'm curious what tonights appointment will be like. I will have to try to be super calm cause I know nerves shoot my BP up.

@sherrybaby2014 I have to do my relaxation breathing in order to get a borderline reading! Glad my DH went with me this week to my appointment because he did them with me to calm me down. I actually got one reading where my diastolic reading was 86 or something and actually not over 90. I did a little cheer and was pretty proud of myself, my dr didn't seem too impressed though.

Well being calm didn't work. BP in the office was 160/110 and they sent me straight to L&D. The thing that's strange is that during the 3 hours I was there it never went above 125/75 and got down to 105/53.

Do I have high BP or just wildly fluctuating BP? Could there be some reader error since in the office they do it manually and the hospital has a machine? I don't know...

I feel the same way.  Mine fluctuates quite a bit, and it's only in the 'hypertension' range when I'm at the office.  I went in yesterday and it was 140/98.  They did a NST, and the first reading (only a few minutes later) was 131/85.  The nurse said that it's probably anxiety, even though I don't feel anxious.  Very strange.  I'm just really hoping they don't try to induce me because of my office readings (I check it regularly at home, and it's never that high).

oh good point, were you laying down in a hospital bed? At the dr office when I was sitting up it was 140/91, and when he had me lay on my side it went down to 112/76 all in the span of 5 minutes. So basically he told me just to lay down and rest as much as possible.

I was laying down at the hospital so that could be a strong factor. Maybe when I go in on Monday I can have the office test me laying down instead of sitting up.
